I agree with you, but having a guy who's serviceable is not a serious team. I don't want serviceable guys. I want guys who can come in and make a difference. No more projects.... - kindlyrick
BREAKING: No bottom pairing defender is ever going to make a difference. There job is to go out there and not screw up. |

We have Aaron Ness....
Crease cleared. - potvin05
All joke aside. Is there really a difference between Aaron Ness and Thomas Hickey?? To me it's the same guy, yet one isn't good enough to make the isles roster and the other is "serviceable" |

Fair enough, but again, I saw hickey get outmuscled every game. That's not a recipe for success |

That's why I said in 2-3 years when the prospects are ready he most likely will be replaced. I don't think anybody is saying the isles will be a force with hickey anchoring the blueline. They are just saying that he was the least of their problems on the blueline last year. |

umm no. If we can replace him I am all for that but since he is not going anywhere he is not that bad - kasperrko
Exactly.....having a guy play because he's the "best of the worst" is the reason why this team is a perrenial 5th overall drafting team.
That said there are prob 4-5 dmen who will be replacing these filler in a year or two |

They're not saying he's a force, but fans tend to have these love affairs with guys because they are on the team. The days of filler should be over. The days of hickeys and strait should be over with.....Garth should be bringing in vets to play those bottom minutes. |

Because veterans are just salivating, ABSOLUTELY SALIVATING, to play here.
You want some scrub for at least $3-4 million a year to be the 6th d-man? |

If you're traded here and under contract, too phucking bad.
I think Garth's business model 6 years later should include this
1. Stop spending all your time trying to sign the top UFAs.
2. Look at all the prospects and decide who will be relevant to the future and the ones who aren't, package them up.
It's really not that hard. |

How is saying Hickey was solid as a bottom pairing D-man considered a love affair? One poster mentions him as a 2nd pairing guy and all of a sudden we are all in love with Hickey? C'mon man |

A lot of guys can skate and move the puck though. I think what separates the guys you listed is they excel at defense as well...and they can play the game of hockey any way you like. They can play up-tempo, or grind it out in a physical battle (Doughty, Keith and Seabrook...I honestly have not watched Peitrangelo play much so can't really speak to his game). For example, aside from any offense they bring, Keith and Seabrook most importantly excel as a shutdown pair. - UIF
this in a nutshell is exactly the problem with the way some of us think here...we are talking about thomas hickey. we all know he isnt a top 2-4 guy. fact. there has to be an understanding that just bc someone isnt doughty keith or seabrook that its still possible for them to do their job. |

You gonna trade Anders Lee for a bottom pairing defenseman?
Or should we just ruin one of our top prospect and put him there? |

Bro I'm reading his corsi is good, he's serviceable etc. As I said.....when this team is serious (which it appears is coming soon) guys like hickey represent failure to me, and having him in the lineup is like saying phuck it |

You're a moron. If you think I'm saying trade every prospect you're a phucking idiot. Not every draft pick will have a spot on this team. As GM his job is to figure out who is relevant and who isn't. Address the defense.....and you don't need to part with all 6 d prospects to do so. |

You're gonna have to trade someone like Lee to get that awesome 6th defenseman you're looking for. Sorry, but that's a fact. |

I can't do this anymore. When we say he was serviceable we were talking last year. Nobody is saying he should be a key piece when they are on the verge of being contenders. We can only talk about the players that are here NOW!! We didn't bring Hickey in the isles did. Yes they sucked last year but just because we say Hickey was decent last year doesn't mean we think he is the answer either. Is that really that hard to comprehend? I don't get it. |

(frank) it. Let's trade Pokka or Pelech to get the most awesome 6th defender on the market. We won't regret that move in a year or two. |
