Flyer hits a player after player has passed puck = "finishing your check."

Player hits a Flyer after Flyer has passed puck = dirty/suspendable hit.

He does it almost every time. It can't be that close that often. It loses its impact if he just says it every time the puck moves across the line.
- ThirdEye

He doesn't even say it, most of the time, like he's questioning the refs.

There's a difference between "Giroux, on the right side to Read- they say it's onside-....Read looking for help...."

And

"Giroux to Reeeeead- they say it's onside!- Read now looking for help"

Ya know?

Sometimes he definitely questions the refs. Everyone does. And the homer stuff is hilarious. a) he really isn't that bad. People need to listen to other feeds.... and b) he's a hometown announcer. Cmon. Of course he'll root for the flyers- he's a flyers fan. I like his inflections and excitement too.

The sweeping generalizations are oozing, eh?

They were grilling Rinaldo for that hit late in the season

Yeah...when a player launches himself at the head of a defenseless player well after he's let go of the puck, kinda hard to come up with a way to praise that. I'm sure I can find other lone examples to nullify my post as well if I dig long enough.

I'll be quite honest with you... I watch a lot of games on tv, with many different announcers. I think JJ and Jonesy/Billy are some of the least homer in the league. And I say that as unbiased as possible, and as a fan of the sport first and foremost. They obviously have some tendencies to pull for orange and black, but overall, they're pretty prudent. Unlike some, (Boston and Pitt take the cake) who are just annoying with it. I will say, I don't mind Dallas', Anaheim's, and a few others too who have pretty solid announcing.

Dave Strader and his color guy- can't remember his name- out in San Jose. They call a great game. Really enjoyable to listen to.

I get NHL Center ice every year and on average watch 3 games a day (a previous nights game while I am on the treamill for 90 minutes...and then the 7/7:30game of choice and a mountain/west coast start later. I couldnt agree more...our guys are really some of the least homer I hear routinely.

He's not my favorite, but I really don't get the hate. He's average at worst on the homerism scale.

Also, I don't think JJ is that bad, all said. But he (just like most other home team commentators) give their guys much more benefit of the doubt than the other team. That was my point. Not JJ specific.

I certainly will give you that. Like I said...hometown guys, of course, are going to give the hometown team a benefit of the doubt, one way or another- that's what all fans do, really. Hometown announcers are fans of the hometown teams, after all...

Now, some go above and beyond.

I'm looking at you, Edwards.

Here's the RJ call I was talking about:

Love how he's saying that Barnaby is "smoking" Lindros as Lindros is filling his face with rights. To me, he's right behind Edwards.

You can think I work for anyone you want to, but that doesn't amount to a hill of beans, and really doesn't have any relevance to the conversation. Vandermeer and Modry were minor deals. Walker I don't know why that was a problem. He was easily demoted and off the cap. I still don't know what happened with the whole Kubina thing, in how he never played for the team. And certainly that was a bad deal. I'm not up in arms about the JVR for Schenn deal. I think they traded for a need, and I think JVR is overrated. And I think Schenn is a good player who hopefully can find some consistency and get even better.
- MJL

Kubina was nothing more than a 7th Dman added at the deadline. It want a bad move, he was there just in case. He was never going to be a big part of the team or even resigned

Yea I agree. It wasn't that long ago where the talk was that there weren't any good defense prospects in the Organization. Now look, there's a boat load of quality defense prospects. Holmgren certainly wasn't a great GM, but he wasn't a bad one. He did far more good then bad, took the team to a Cup final, and built a quality core to move forward with. Now it just has to be tweaked and some final moves made. Which are the hardest to make.

Right now a lot of the fan base is all about being patient. But trust me, a couple of seasons of playoff disapointment. And Hextall will be a bum GM.

- MJL

Holmgren has been building defense cores, since a lot of the posters here were knee high to a grasshopper.

Those guys in San Jose are very good. No " Homer" aspect at all.

Joe Bowen from Toronto is a joke....and I can't stand Bob Errey from Pittsburg, that guy is a jerk!
