This is true although you guys are still better than both of us. Isles improved significantly just by getting a competent goalie. Make that 2 competent goalies.

I still don't like the Devils philosophy of adding older offensive talent and expecting it to somehow mesh. Sure, Jagr was good last year and didn't tire out as much as many of us expected but to expect him, Cammalleri, Elias, Havlat, Clowe, Michael Ryder and Zajac to be the lynchpins of an adequate offense might be asking a bit much. The only one of that group under 30 is Zajac and he's 29. To me I see old, slow and injury prone.

In all fairness to the Leafs I think all 30 teams would take Kessel over Nash.
- mighty13duck

True but the point remains that nashs contract isnt too bad relative to other superstar deals around the league. If nash scores 45 goals next season does the contract automatically turn good?

Not for his contract and years.

Brooks says no chance Nash will get traded

Brooks correct here at saying Nash's NMC clause ends at the end of this season?

He also adds that he has a NTC that still would be in place. All the NMC prevents the team from doing is transferring his contract to Hartford. And even if that route were taken, all but $925,000 would still remain on the cap so the NMC is pretty much irrelevant.

Edit: It also means that he would not be subject to waivers should the elect to buy out his contract at any point. Like Richards, he would automatically become a UFA rather than have to wait 48 hours for the waiver process to play out.

I've said this often but I will say it again: If Marian Gaborik can overcome the playoff bugaboo in one postseason with the Kings, then Nash can do the same here. If he had been loafing throughout the playoffs and wasn't noticeable, I'd be real concerned. But since the hard work was there, the SOG were there, I'm hopeful he has a terrific postseason run in him.

As for the cap hit, yeah, it makes it tight right now but where else do you find a guy as talented as Nash? There aren't many around and few come available often. Was there a single UFA this year that you would have rather had? I can pretty much guarantee you pretty much any other player in the NHL could be a New York Ranger with a cap hit the same as Nash's and there would be a segment of the fans who would think he is overpaid.

- gkmkiller

Remember how dominant nash was in his first 20 or so games
As a ranger? He didnt score much then either, as i recall.
He seems to be streaky as to when the pucks go in and when they
Dont -not for lack of effort or lack of SOG, but weird. Got to
Think he will have a playoff when lots of those do go in.

I would take the contract and years of kessel over nash. Kid is 26 his contract expires at 34. Kessel and nash will be similar in goals scored and I like the edge kessel plays with. Outside of maybe 3 games as a Ranger (against Columbus and maybe 1 or 2 others) nash doesn't have much of an edge to him.

You guys are closing the gap, no doubt that as long as the kids pan out your time is coming but we know in this league that it doesn't happen overnight

Nash can get an edge to his game, but he is not paid for that. His thing is putting pucks in the net. We saw in the playoff more often than not, he can play physical.

I see 35 goals from him this coming season. Maybe more if he plays with MSL on the other wing and Stepan remaining as the center.

Yea, there's isolated moments like this, the fight w the guy on Columbus who got in his face off the face off in his first game back in Columbus. That whole game it was great to see cause he played w a lot of intensity, he needs that more often because not just him but the whole team seems to play better when he does.

if he stays healthy and plays close to 80 games, I definitely see 35 goals from Nash this year.

The problem will be, no matter how well he does, everyone all year will be saying "so, he can't do it in the playoffs"

but, we definitely need Nash to have a great regular season so we can get back to the playoffs so he can have another shot at it.

How long do you think it is going to take for the Rangers to lock down their first RFA?

Kreider is first on the arbitration list. July 23rd. I see it getting resolved within minutes of the hearing.

You think that late? I was hoping sooner. I don't want any of these going to actual hearings.

I definitely hope sooner, but Mr. Sather's history in these kind of things doesn't make me too hopeful

Yea that is true. I think Zucc and Brassard will get 4 plus year deals. Kreider most likely will settle on that 2 year bridge contract. Although I would love a long term deal there to.

Good news everyone:

Thanks to the lower than expected NHL cap (and the Tanner Glass signing) Sather has decided to fill an extra forward slot with one lucky fan. Golden tickets have been hidden inside Wonka chocolate bars. 5 lucky fans will get to show up to training camp and compete for a roster spot

Crap.. my chances of making it are low as I'm a lefty dman.. BUT i play with a snarl and would take $550k or whatever the league minimum is to play... Too bad i'll balloon back up to 300lbs with all the Wonka bars i'll have to eat to find a damn ticket!

Do they even make wonka bars anymore? Should put those golden tickets in some chipotle burritos.
