Yeah man, at this point if he can step in as a 6th d-man and that be who he is that plays sound defensively let it be... That being said, it's disappointing we grabbed him 10th overall. I remember being defeated that year. 2nd to us losing this year in the playoffs. That draft was brutal. Especially with Cam Fowler still on the board.

This is the first positive article I have seen about the Rangers so far. I love how everyone writes them off before the offseason is even over. The key really is the kids. If they come into training camp strong and play well, this team will be dangerous.

I'm not saying it's going as planned, but he had a pretty serious knee injury that derailed his development. I'm willing to be a little more patient.

Remember, McIlrath spent that 1st two seasons in Juniors. The 3rd he missed half the season, and in total, he has only 109 AHL games under his belt:

109 6 16 22 8 297

I think he'll start the year in Hartford and get called up if the team ends up needing toughness on the back-end.

He didn't look great in his whopping two games last season, but I didn't think he looked too bad for a kid who's nerves clearly showed.
