People seem to think that the Hawks would have won the cups without Toews and/or Kane. I argue that even if one of these two was missing during either run, they would've lost.

they had to sign these guys. blame the players for being willing to potentially sabotage the cap but not the team. and like i said, those are moveable contracts. would not at all shock me to see Kane traded within the next 3 years if the cap increases only incrementally.

No offense but Crosby and Malkin >>>>>> Kane and Toews.
- cuethenoise

Well:
Toews- Crosby can be debated but edge to Crosby
Toews> Malkin
Kane less than Crosby
Kane less than Malkin

What the hell the entire post wouldnt come up

You wouldn't put Kane as a top 3 winger? I'd take the kid of Ovi, E. Kane, Gaborik, Hall, Krejci, etc..
- YzermanIsTheMan

As a winger or compared to players at his position ...yeah but that's not what I said. They are now the highest two paid players at " any" position in the league and they are not the top two players in the league.....I don't say that to knock them because they are great players but the way salaries are being handed out these days a lockout is on it's way.

They are both in the discusion for the top 5 best players in the league.

Toews scored one goal in Chicago first 20 playoff game in 2013, thru game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals, yet they still won the Cup. I call that being missing.

For how long? By the time these contracts are over how many guys will be making 10+ mil?

It's not like they are two hacks.

It wasn't that long ago that people laughed at Minny with parise and Suter. Is anyone complaining now?

- Lahey

I've always thought Parise was overvalued.....he's good, don't get me wrong, but look at what they pay Pomminville and then Parise, almost a full $2M less per, and Pomminville has actually had better stats. Parise was injured last year but Pomminville also averaged almost 2 minutes less TOI.

Go back to the last full season they both played in 11/12....Pommer still with better Goals/Assts.

I never said they were hacks. The point was about the fact when the cba comes up for renewal the salaries of players will have the owners complaining. I mean come on looking at Crosby's cap hit with Pittsburgh now .....what a deal the pens got there.
- RobFlyers#1

In reality the owners have gotten lucky. How many players are taking the maximum 20% allowed? 0.

13.8mil is the max I believe. I don't think it's far fetched to see Kane and Toews as two of the top paid guys and they probably could've asked for 13.8mil on the open market and would've gotten it.

The same will be true if a Stamkos hits the market or Tavares or whoever.

The only two people who'd I say deserve higher pay based on what they bring are Crosby and Malkin. Both of them were signed 2+ years ago and both took discounts. They signed when the cap was much lower, so they probably equaled out in terms of % to the team cap.

And I don't think you're knocking them at all. I just think the pay as the highest currently is justified, although its a little higher than I'd have wanted.

reports are $10.5 mill for 8 years on Kane and Toews! The Blackhawks just screwed themselves! 1/3 of your cap to 2 players ahhaa

Goals win games, defense wins championships. I call you out and would say his shut down play on players like Datsyuk/Zetterberg, Kopitar, and Boston's top two lines were crucial to their winning.

Crosby also signed a 13-year deal. had he signed for 8 years, he'd have gotten a much bigger hit.

Crosby and Malkin made up 30% of the Pens salary at one time and they weren't screwed, so why is CHI going to be screwed when they've been more successful with their two guys?
- Lahey

Really? Look at their recent playoff outings and tell me they aren't screwed. The D gets exposed every year and if Crosby and Malkin get shutdown who has the skill to step up? Exactly no one. Crosby and Malkin are the team and they are easy to beat in playoff hockey
