Yeah the real question is should somebody trade for him. And unless the team is struggling to make the cap floor the answer is no.

Yeah I think he's a No.5 dman in every team except Toronto. Prolly No.4 in Edmonton.

Dion and franson for m.richards and a 2nd
- Flyfreaky

no way we would take a deal like that.paying phaneuf 7 mill for 2nd pairing is way worse than paying Richards 5.75 for 4th line and pp and pk

The right amount for the right term for their calibre play. The BH better hope the cap doesn't collapse for some reason.

I think he's at least a 3 or 4, maybe even a 2 when he's at the top of his game. He is not even close to the 3rd best defenseman in the league though, but he has the 3rd highest contract. Add in the fact that he's probably going to start declining in a year or two and you'll be stuck with that contract for 7 years and you'd have to be desperate to trade for him now.

except ROR is five years younger and better, other than that they're the same.
- LeftCoaster

Yeah okay. My bad, you're absolutely right. RoR is head and shoulders better than Bozak, and 5 years younger to boot. Bozie is ancient at 28 after all.

So yeah - lets give them Bozak, Dion and our 2015 first round pick. While we're at it lets take 30% of Dion's contract, and give them another prospect as well!

After all, RoR is so Franchise!

reports are $10.5 mill for 8 years on Kane and Toews! The Blackhawks just screwed themselves! 1/3 of your cap to 2 players ahhaa

no it hasn't. the system is iron-clad. same % of revenues go the owners regardless of how high salaries go. regardless of what Toews and Kane are paid, Chicago still has a salary cap that they must adhere to. and that salary cap is significantly lower than it would have been under the old CBA.

If Kane played center this would make sense , only Toews is deserving (yes to a certain extreme) of such an amount because of what he brings on and off the ice.

Yeah and I respect that, but you can't use 1/3 of your cap on 2 players and expect to continue being competitive. If they don't get rid of Sharp and or Hossa they only have 6 million of space to sign 8 players....

Whats your reasoning? Two Conn Smythe winners who have carried their team to two Stanley Cups.. arguably two of the top 3 players for their position in the league.

I think you're being too generous. I think he's a bottom pairing dman making nearly the most money in hockey. I can't recall other dmen making mistakes, but I have seen first hand Dion making them. I'm glad he had to go on national t.v. to apologize for his ill timed pinch against Boston in the playoffs. I can't believe he's gotten away with it for so long. I mean you see all the time players having to go on national t.v. to apologize for mistakes they made in the game.

It's because of Darren Dreger being Nonis' brother or father or roommate (I can't remember) that Dion has got away with it.

Typical Leafs fans complain that Dion has only played with Gunnarsson, Aulie, Kostka, Schenn, Franson and Komisarek. Well guess what Weber was stuck with Suter, Keith stuck with Seabrook, Doughty stuck with Muzzin, Chara stuck with Hamilton, Pietrangelo stuck with Bouwmeester so Dion should do just as well.

I blame the Leafs organization, who are, in general, evil and don't give anything back to the NHL. There really should.be a system in place where the Leafs, with all the money they have, have to give to some of the smaller franchises that give tickets away for free. Just my two cents.

they might be. we will have to see where revenues go. and those contracts, massive as they are, are moveable. even the last years of those deals, both players will still be productive. so this isn't like they'll be 38-39 in those years. that said, i'm a bit surprised at the AAV. i would have expected them to take a bit less for the sake of keeping the core together.
