saw talk the other day comparing the salaries from years ago (before lockout #1) and now..... Guys were getting $11mil a year back then. Also said that the cap has messed up structure where the stars aren't really getting paid the huge dollars they used to and that 3rdliners dollars have exploded. IMO that may have to do with 2nd/3rd tier teams signing these 3rdliners to inflated contracts because they miss out on the stars. - burn
Thank you Florida and the Cap Floor! ...Probably also impacted by hockey's ability to win without the superstar (i.e. it's a 20 man thing unlike NBA) and by hockey's superstar's (Crosby, Malkin, etc...) not pushing for max dollars to "in theory" help the team win. Toews and Kane have pushed the barrier a little bit but really could have demanded more if they were looking out for only themselves. |

Yeah but his next contract will eat into some UFA years. - Pecafan Fan
That's the option they have - iffy year = short term deal. Good year = lock him up. Is he an UFA in 2016? Anybody know? |

Maybe coaching candidates around the league are reluctant to sign on too. Maybe we can find some KHL coaches with "compete"? |

Haven't heard much of this name during the offseason...is Chris Stewart in the Sabres long term plans you think? What would it take to pry him out of BUF do you think as a bit of a reclamation project? If they are truly looking to add a big winger with scoring upside I gotta think the price for this guy will be easier to digest than Kane. |

That is the goal isn't it? To improve the team at any position especially from within. - LeafMan
Yes exactly. Enough of all this talk of trying to sign heatly and booth to bargain deals. They will either be worthless or actually play good and will want loads of money next year and will be gone anyways. Play some prospects who has earned the chance to play. They will probobly play better than the "bargain" deals and will actually be use to us in the future. |

What's with the constant obession with forwards while ignoring defence?
Are we trying to be the Oilers or something? |

Has never played more than 45 games. That isn't #1 goalie. He's been a backup (and a split 1a/b last year). - burn
3 yr bridge at 4-4.5M hopefully gets it done. |

McDavid wears #97 and Carlyle hates those big jersey numbers. I'm stocked already for the drama. |

We? No. I don't think the Leafs are either.
How many impactful defensmen are on the market currently in your opinion?
Are you under the impression that because I asked about a winger that I somehow don't feel the defense needs a major upgrade, or is the fact that has been debated to death on this site for months not sufficient for you? Can the Leafs do both potentially? |
