You could make the argument that 10.5 is a bit high for Kane. I can see that one... but the guys have chemistry, and at the end of the day, you pay your stars if you want to win. - Feeling Glucky?
yup.
Kane is right place right time. But hes got a Conne Smythe too. He lit it up in the finals and won them the 2nd cup. Canèt say he hasnèt earned it.

I'd say they are as likely to be where they are now next year. Defense will be improved, but I don't think Carlyle will have a noticeable impact on the roster, and the Leafs will ultimately fail because of that. - Viktory
Maybe I am being overly optimistic but I think you will see a differant Carlyle next year. He knows he came a wisker away from being fired. I think you will see him roll four lines and the team will play a much better defensive style.
It will be intersting who the assistants will be, as one of them could be the interim Coach if Carlyle doesn't get them going and he gets canned. |

yup
Shanahan said pretty clearly they have a new mandate for Carlyle, and Carlyle said in his presser that a lot is expected to change. |

In the shortened season, he rolled 4 lines because his 4th line was good.
This season, they shat the bed, and he had to rely on the other 3... with the 2nd line also poopting the bed, and McClement out of his comfort zone playing the full shut-down role.
This season, the bottom-6 cast is much improved, in terms of talent and depth. |

IMO the Hawks are now just like the pens. Have to much tied up in two players and will make the playoffs every year but wont have a good enough supporting cast to achieve another cup for a while. |

Mid level and bottom 6 guys and perhaps even some decent vets may be willing to sign for less just to be a part of that team. Winning can do that. I wouldn't count them out after those contracts. And if/when the cap goes up...pfft. |

6 of their 8 best players are all locked LONG term, and Sharp and Seabrook for 2 more years each. and that core is good enough to fill out the linup with solid roll players and still be a contender.
Need to shed $2M and change, but Bickel makes $4M. |

Their mistake was to sign Crawford at 6. |

partially agree. Hawks have done a much better job at developing their draft picks and have had better overall asset management than the pens. They will need to be even more successful at this now if they are going to challenge for a cup. |

ya that's the one that they might regret. Hossa too once he retires, but at lest the cap hit is minimal now. REcapture penalty will suck though
