IMO, team's a lot closer to the playoffs than a lottery pick, as it stands. All the moves made were to change some of the biggest flaws with the way the team played (poor defense, only 3 lines, low energy).

Even if they do fall flat again, it's not the GMs intention. The moves all had a clear purpose.

I'd say they are as likely to be where they are now next year. Defense will be improved, but I don't think Carlyle will have a noticeable impact on the roster, and the Leafs will ultimately fail because of that.

Because the comment "8 Million a Steal?" was made on the day Toews and Kane signed 10.5 million per extensions. We're headed to the 11 million per star days that were over a decade ago.

That was them overacheiving... but I take the 100+ game sample prior to having no good goalie over the 15 game sample that followed.
