We weren't talking about wingers.

But I'll gladly name 10 PLAYERS that are better.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Thats easy when the league is stacked with elite centers and defensemen. But to any extent, Kane and Teows should've signed in the very high 7 digit range, not 8.

If I was the 'hawks, I'd put a contract in front of Toews and have him fill in the numbers.

I'm not as sold on Kane - don't get me wrong, I think he's world-elite - but in a perfect world, I wouldn't pay him as much. But as we know, it's not a perfect world, and it seems these guys have some sorta bromance agreement to get the same contracts. What'evs.

Good teams lock up their superstars.

- Atomic Wedgie

I'm with you.

While I'm not surprised they locked Kane up with Toews, I also wouldn't have been surprised if they had traded him for a ransom.

But as it stands, they're probably going to be a powerhouse through to the end of those guy's contracts, at which point they'll have teams lining up to kickstart their re-build for them.

That's what Chicago does right, and what makes them a threat every year. They shed the members of the supporting cast that want too much, and let the youngsters that have been training for that role step in, while their key players stay constant.

I think Toronto's trying to do something similar... they just overestimated Clarkson. But a look at their signings this year- and you'll see a bunch of short-term contracts for supporting guys like Santorelli that will likely be replaced by younger guys next year, while the top-6 guys (JVR, Kessel, Lupul... Bozak .....Clarkson) are signed long term. And the supporting guys who wanted big $$? Bolland, Kulemin? Gone.

I'm worried a bit because they did offer Bolland close to 5 million. They also wanted Gorges who Montreal was more than happy to trade to a division rival no less.

If those moves didn't go sour then we'd be lambasting Nonis for his poor moves.

Explains why they offered Bolland a long term, big money deal.

Not as big as he got from Florida.

It was under 5M, no?

It's irrelevant because he's now gone. To be honest - unless it comes from Nonis (even than...) - I don't believe much that these talking-heads report.

With the insanely low quality of hockey journalism and the blatant rumor fabrications, I'm not remotely convinced they ever did.

First it was 4.9 for 5. No wait it was 4.75. Wait no for 4 years. Wait no they didn't even offer anything remotely close to that until 12p on July 1. Wait no... On and on and on.

Blindly believing all of Macs and Dregs and Kypers tweets/insider info is a suckers bet.

If you put 4 beers in me, I'd happily argue that you could substitute Kessel for Kane and the 'hawks would still have two cups.

Toews is the straw that stirs that drink.

Conn Smythe trophy begs to differ. Seven GWG in their playoffs runs.

In playoff OT there is no player in the NHL id take over Patty Kane.

I'd do Franson for Gorges any day.

I also think that if they had re-signed Bolland, they wouldn't have brought Komarov back.

Worse than talking-heads - the "reporting" came from the agent.

I think Boy Gorges would have looked good in T.O.

Habs are going to sign Subban to big $$$ and picked up Weaver for cheap.

what was it, 500k less per season or something like that?

What this tells me, is Nonis was ready to repeat the Clarkson mistake again.

meh, not much reason for the agent to lie after the contract was signed, unless he represents similar players as well.
