Heard something along the lines of Eberle for ROR. You guys could use a decent possession player.
still laughing? - TandA4Flames
You can make poop up if you want but ROR doesnt have great possession numbers. None of the Avs do. |

well what are people's thoughts on picking Brandon Hickey from the AJHL?
heard he looked pretty good at development camp, but his stats in Junior A weren't anything amazing given there were still lots of quality CHL prospects still available...
if it's a step below, how can you justify ever picking a CJHL player over a CHL player? - cpltanto
I'm no expert on this stuff but I think the decision had to do with schooling. Pretty sure he is committed to Boston College for next year. |

Sounded like the kid looked decent in camp. At this point i'll trust that the Flames scout staff knows better than anyone on here. He seems fo have good tools. Only time will tell. |

Sorry I think I'm misunderstanding you
Are you saying the decision to pick him over others in a better league has to do with his schooling?
Or does this mean if wanted to go to college, he can't play in the CHL and thus chose the CJHL? |

Not making it up:
•Jonathan Willis of the Edmonton Journal: Willis wonders if the Oilers would be interested in O’Reilly if the Avs decide it’s best to move on. The Avs could be interested Jordan Eberle, David Perron, Nail Yakupov and possibly Justin Schultz. If the Avs want to trade him, they may prefer to send to the East. |

Its all speculation; everything, until it happens.
My point is a hockey writer is pondering the possibility. |

It means Hickey wants to play on a line with Jack Eichel for a few seasons and rake in a Frozen Four title or two. It's not because the fancy books they got there at BU. |

There are some gems to be found in the Junior leagues, I believe Colborne was selected out of the AJHL (1st rounder no less), and GlenX played AJHL before going to college. There are a variety of reasons they could be playing Junior A instead of the big leagues like WHL OHL and the Q, most often it's that they were a late bloomer (Colborne wasn't very big until his draft year I believe) or they happened to slip through the cracks. Perhaps their parents didn't think they were mature enough to play far away from home, maybe the kid wanted to finish school at home etc.
I'm gonna put some faith into the scouts that have stocked us quite well over the last few years and reserve judgement on the kid. |

Does that mean if you want to college route you go the cjhl?
Is it only a certain age group (younger)
Can you not go to college after the CHL route?
Anyone know what ages the CJHL vs the CHL are? |

You can go to college after the CHL. I believe the WHL even pays a years tuition for every year you play with them (not sure how remaining years of eligibility for college works for older guys though).
I think the ages are the same for both leagues. I think what used to happen was that guys would play AJHL and hope to get picked up for the CHL. If that didn't happen and they still wanted to pursue hockey, they would then play college hockey. But, over the years college hockey has become much more competitive, and could maybe one day rival the CHL in terms of prospects.
I wouldn't read to much into the AJHL to college thing, it's becoming much more popular and it actually makes more sense for these guys to be getting an education they can fall back on. If I had a kid with NHL potential, I think I'd want them to go the NCAA route. |
