Getz and Perry play a slower cycling game, conducive to LW's like Ryan, Maroon and Heatley. Our top-line plays a rush game... Heatley and Vinny aren't able to keep up.

Hartnell wasn't exactly a speedster. And If Lecavalier is healthy, he skates well enough to play with Giroux.

I think VL could be most successful skating between Raffl and Read

Regardless of who his wingers are, I think the best spot for Lecavalier on this team is 2nd line Center.

That is an interesting idea.

I think read and raffl need to be split. They both do much of the same things well, have to spread out their d and back checking out over a couple lines

Why are Devils fans ecstatic over signing a guy who is 28 years old who has never been the # 1 goalie on his team before? Has Schneider ever started 40 games in a season?

Looks alright to me, especially listing them in terms of ES ice time.

He's played pretty well, but overall it's a fairly small sample size. 7 yrs 42 million?
Seems like a lot to me.

Yeah, this season. And he had a .921 SV%.

They were up against it. If they started this season without getting him signed, it would have been rough.

Edit: I agree though. It's not a great deal for the Devils. He's shown less than Mason.

He's played less games than Mason, but done far better at stopping pucks.

If Vinny plays 70 games, has 40+ points, and is better than -10 I think that would be considered a success. It'd be nice if he could get back to winning 50% of his faceoffs.

I will consider it successful if he attains what I expected from him last season. Which is 20-25 goals and 25-35 assists.

Re: Schneider. There is no doubt he's a good goalie with great skill. I think he's unproven though. He hasn't been the #1 on a team. He's always shared time.

If I was a betting man, I'd bet on him to be a #1, but it must have been difficult to give $42M to a guy who has never been a #1 goalie.

We'll see what happens with VL. Berube has already admitted that he doesn't fit the system. It was obvious he couldn't last year.

Anyone see any arbitration guys getting a big win and maybe the team walks away? Just a different topic then the normal ones.

NJ got themselves into the dilemma by keeping two 40 year old goalies on the roster for a couple years, and not really planning for the future. Then, they traded for Schneider and used him in conjunction with Brodeur... and more than likely, since the UFA landscape wasn't very good for potentially solid, young, #1 goalies they were forced to fork out #1 goalie money to an unproven "backup" at this point yet.

Might work out for them... very well could actually... but it could also burn them bad if he doesn't work out. They'll be stuck with no goalie, and a bad contract if he doesn't.

He wasn't exactly a plodder either... problem was mostly balance, tendency to take the wrong lines/angles and willingness to keep his toots moving.

If somebody offered me a guarantee on those numbers or take the risk of him having a better or worse season, I'd take the guarantee.

This team needs him to hold his own defensively. If he can come in at -10 or better, over 70 games, hell yes I'd take it
