I think it's funny that some on here are making the comment like " I think we need another winger bc the Pens don't have a legit top 6".... Really? Did the Pens have a legit top 6 in 2009? NOPE!!!! I mean unless you really think Talbot and Fedotenko were legit top 6 I guess you make a valid point... Lets be honest Dupuis isn't anywhere NEAR A LEGIT TOP 6!!!! He just so happens to skate with Crosby. If Dupuis was a top 6 he wouldn't have been a B6 player for 75% of his NHL career.. And anyone suggesting that a 35 year old returning from ACL/MCL surgery will more than likely start on the top line is fooling themselves.. For one the Disco Dumb Dumb and his two good cops era is over in Pgh. Therefore, the days of having 87 tell them who is going to be on his line is also over!!!! With Tocchett being on this coaching staff and his love for Downie I would bet a mortgage payment that you will see Downie on the top line or at the very least on the 2nd line with Malkin. After listening to Downie's radio interview last week his knee is 100% healthy and his hearing issues that caused him to lose his hearing last season was corrected by surgery. This also forced him to have balance issues.. The only issue with this roster is where is glass wrist Bennett going to fit in.. #1 Kunitz, Crosby, Downie.....#2 Hornqvist, Malkin, Bennett ( although if they move Martin as expected this could be filled via trade)..... #3 Spaling, Sutter, Dupuis... #4 Comeau, Goc, Sill.... With Adams being the 13th forward or outright released bc only in this town is he still an NHL player even though he's absolutely terrible.. His role could be filled by someone like Payerl anyways. Adams' days of hanging out in the coaches office shooting the breeze while drinking coffee before practice are over.. Sure Neal was a problem in the dressing room with how he treated some of the players, but Adams snitching on players for everything and anything was also an issue. |

It's very obvious he wants out.... Would love to see him in Pitt or even back in Vancouver(ie. Giants).
Hell, do that package and be done. I think that's fair value for both sides. For any trolls, obviously there would need to be some other cap movement. |

The package is realistic of what it would take to obtain Kane, but another domino would have to fall to keep him in our cap structure. Scuderi or Martin would need to be move out with no salary back as well. |

Well for one that was one of my comments. In 2009 they also had a dominating third line. Excelled in a shut down role and provided a decent offensive spark. They had two relentless forecheckers and a great two way center. They were fast, mean, and guys hating playing them. We don't have that now and Sutter doesn't project to be what Staal was in that role. So you address the bottom six the best you can, which I believe they made strides with this offseason, and you fortify your top six. That is just my opinion.

Booth is done
He went up and down in the Canuck lineup playing with the Sedins then Kesler and also 3rd line duty
was terrible in all aspects |

i'd take heatly, seto, ott, whitney, over booth. |

Good call sir - Not_Yan
I just think both had similar beginnings to their career with some real high points with the occasional dip, and then all of a sudden their production dips down. After a while they sky rocket down. In Booth's case it was an injury. In Seto's case it was poor centers. Give me a guy who could succeed by a simple upgrade in linemates over the guy who could never fully recover from an injury. |

Seto had poor centers because he didnt produce enough with the good centers to justify him staying with them. It isnt like he was playing with Thornton and was killing it and they said "screw that guy". He also played with Miko Koivu in Minnesota and wasn't any good.
He is a streaky player, he has momments where you think he is going to be great, but he just hasnt found a way to be a consistent contributor on any team he has played for.

Where would a guy like Booth, or Heatley/Seto for that matter justify getting even 1.5 million?
These guys are at the "Please, someone let me play the game" point in their career
1 year, 1 million is the most any of these guys should be sniffing at
Should become a new GM unwritten standard |

Booth on a try out just like Kobasew? Absolutely.
Setoguchi would be cool for under $1.5M.
I an positive Kane will be a Penguin soon. |

If only you could swap out Pouliot, and add Martin & Samuelsson.....I'd love a Sutter, 1st, Martin and Samuelsson for E. Kane and a 3rd/or prospect. That would be highway robbery for us...but I really think WPG would only accept a kings ransom..aka a more quality/less quantity type of trade :-( |

On the cheap he could be a good signing. I just worry about how many swing line players we have. Very few legit top six players with more 3rd line guys with 2nd line potential.
Actually, as I say that it is still better than what we have dealt with in the past. I guess I shouldn't complain too much about the signings until I see Sutter's deal. - usethe1-2-2
I really agree here. There is great value to having position flexibility and swing players. But we really need that top 6 guy. I know many here disagree but a legitimate top 6 wing puts us over the top. I hear Kapanen and Spaling will get good looks for top 6 in camp (per TIOPS)....simply not good enough, IMO. |

Another guy I really like it Perron. Any idea what it would take to get him out of Edm? Using basically the same package as the proposed Kane deal....I traded Martin, Sutter, 1st (or Pouliot) for Perron. Not sure how realistic the trade is but I like this roster. Bottom 6 is pretty interchangeable....
