is there any interest in Ott?
- i'mjustafan

I hope not. Too much money for his role. I think the signing of Downie and Goc made that clear. Ott isn't a bad player to get, but he is a 3 mill a year player and that is a good bit for a third liner right now on this club.

On the cheap he could be a good signing. I just worry about how many swing line players we have. Very few legit top six players with more 3rd line guys with 2nd line potential.
Actually, as I say that it is still better than what we have dealt with in the past. I guess I shouldn't complain too much about the signings until I see Sutter's deal.

I don't think out top six is as thin as people think. We have 4 legit top six with 2 of them being generational players. Kunitz and Hornqvist are both legit top 6 on every team in the league. Then we have 2 fringe top six players rounding the lines out. What team in the league has a better top six? Chicago? Who else?

I usually think of Chicago, LA, Boston, Tampa, and now the Ducks as teams with Very strong top six players. Dallas looks to be a very strong top 6 team now. I just think this team could use one legit top six. It is probably greedy but you don't win cups being complacent.

I will say this though, this team is much deeper than they have been in years. There are also internal options for top six as well. I can see Spaling surprising people.

He would be a great signing. Personally, I liked Booth. He was never.. EVER the same after that hit and the trade to the Canucks was done in Florida's best interest, not his. He is still young enough that he can become a goal scorer. I would start him on the 3rd line and move him up as he starts to perform.

As someone who watched him in Vancouver, he's done.

I like Devin Setoguchi better as a reclamation project. He never lived up to the 8th overall pick, but the guy was effective with Jumbo Joe. Then his career took a hit with lack luster centers. If he can produce with Joe Thornton, I am damn sure he can produce with Sid or Geno.

Lets use the same tactics we would use for Booth: sell him on reviving his career, sign him to a cheap, 1/2 year contract, and play him with either Sid or Geno. I bet with Sid he can at least come close to the production Duper would have given this year if not match or surpass it, which would allow us to move Duper down to the 3rd where he would literally kill it.

If it doesn't work out? Well, we're back to where we started and we need to make the same deadline trade that we would have otherwise. If it does work out, then we just filled a major hole for cheap and balanced the lines very well. It actually amazes me that the Gooch is still on the market.

They call him Air Downie for when he gets sent flying through the air by right hook thrown by a guy twice his size. Love this guy's heart but with his injury history I really hope he picks the right fights and doesn't do anything stupid.

His balls might be his downfall. I think he will quickly become a fan favorite especially if he can score a few

why did sutter not go to arbitration? does that mean that there is a multi year deal that is close? or any rumors that the pens will trade him since his # is now 2.7M?
- i'mjustafan

Cody Franson did this last summer. The agent is telling the player that they will probably get locked into a number that the player will view as insufficient. Sign a one year and do your best to boost your numbers for next year's arbitration.

At this point, anyone who fights that isn't as big a plug as Engo will be my favorite. No mistake, Downie's a plug, but at least he won't feel like a waist of space. It may sound childish, but it's gotten sickening how infrequently this team drops the gloves. I wish him good health and many black eyes given.

Booth is a wreck.... thanks to Richards. Would like to see him turn it around but I think his career is pretty much done. He will not be an impact player.

I prefer targeting Michael Ryder, he fits our needs pretty well, I think. NJ only has four defensemen signed, can't we spare one?

It has not been a fun year for Ryder, sure a change of scene is what he would prefer and NJ as well.

I'd rather have Jagr for the same cap hit.

Agreed but it's unlikely they will part with Jagr.

My heart is saying I'd trade Paul Martin for Jagr but my head is still 50/50.

Guy was a freaking 57.9% possession player last year with 67 points playing with Zajac.

I mean I don't think Zajac is bad but he ain't Sid or Geno.

Martin is the bait but the asset must truly compensate the deal. I like Jagr, Ryder has something to prove and his Corsi numbers were through the roof with Boston. He needs the horses with him to allow him room and compliment him properly. I believe we have that here and though over 30, far younger than Jagr.

The age thing is certainly something to consider but Ryder and Jagr's contracts both end after this year.

Yep, one year deals. Maybe if they throw in an extra player or decent prospect?

EDIT: I like this guy, versatile, speed and a good forechecker.
