Which is what good or-gan-i-za-tions do.

So - between Toledo (if applicable) and Rockfish - is the development system up to the task?

- StLBravesFan

That's a great point and why I am skeptical. Look at tt. How many teams passed on that kid? Why? was that draft that deep that a guy of his supposed value was available that late or was he passed by?

Again. This is Bowmans time to shine. It's obvious Hayes is leaving and that's alarming to me especially if he's NHL ready and turns out to be in the very least a dependable depth guy.

So JT 68 points and PK 69 points are worth 10.5 mil ea. Guess Getz and perry should have got 13mil ea.
- lakings35

So JT and PK have 2 cups each and are worth 10.5 mil...Guess Getz and Perry shouldn't get jack crap until they prove they can win

Can't speak to Toledo and typically maybe 1-5% of those guys ever see the NHL anyway.

Rockford, well, not great results the last couple of years, but the standings can be misleading as far as player development.

- John Jaeckel

Big year for Dent in Rockford...If things don't progress my guess is he will be somewhere else.

Q needs to give more rope to a couple of young guys and play them more during the regular season as well.

Isn't there a possibility that Dent could replace Kompon?

Has anyone heard if the Hawks are trying to work on a new contract for Leddy?

When you at the bottom of the heap there are 2 basic strategies...
Find hidden gems that others overlook...See Detroit over the years...Or
Wait for higher rated players to drop for whatever reason and take a shot....ie Saad-TT-McNeill etc and hope a gem falls into your lap.

the Perry and Getzlaf deals were late last spring......under the current Cba with a general assumption of an increase in the cap. Which was less than expected and thats why, in comparison, I think the contracts for your big boys are too high. about a mil over each. Like I said its just my opinion.
- dprice818

Yeah I agree here

I wrote earlier in the blog before they signed that 9.5 would be great and a real discount would be 8.5.

IMO I really do think Kane and Toews were selfish to sign that long with a cap hit of 10.5.

I fully understand that they deserve the money they just signed for but I would want to be within reason to still help the team win more championships.

AGAIN it's my opinion.

Iv'e been debating hockey with some of you since 2007-08 on the daily herald board. When John took over this, I actively spent more time here (no offense Al ) as the DH site was asking for payment for a subscription to post.

What was once a lively, policed by ourselves board has become a nightmare. We lost a main stay to corporate, but the more I think about it...it was needed. I understand why some ex main stays do not post any more and only this board suffers from educated debate. Instead we get grab @ss of old movies or shows instead.

I sat this morning and saw the bombardment of posts of a select few trying to engage in what I'm gong to assume was premeditated posts as the content had gone stale. Why? I dont' know, but this junior high girl clique crap has to end.

It's hard to sternly debate in writing, as you can't decipher the tone of voice of the other person. We all are passionate fans of the Hawks, that much we have in common.

Do I always agree with Wiz, John, or AL? nope. Do they have a LOT MORE insight to a LOT more things then the average joes on this board has? Yep. And so do some others, who I have met first hand. Is it hard to believe stuff based on sources without getting documented information? Yes, it is. However, that's how journalism works. Show me the next time when Bob McKenzie mentions a proposed trade who said it.

What I'm getting at is I'm done with the personal crap. I'm done engaging in what I think are spirited debates which may actually may not be the case. I hope those who took information off here and posted it on social media come forward. I enjoy reading, and will continue to read John's work, but at some point...if the girlish ways don't end, this board will be a ghost town.

How many ELC guys did this team have in 2008-09 and 2009-10?

A bunch is an overdramatic stretch. they have 65.7 committed to 15 guys. You can field a team with 22. Cap will go up, and go up HIGH IF you believe the experts. Not me. Not another guy on here, but a credited expert. Maybe as high as 6-7 million. So next year could be 75-77 million.

that leaves 10-12 million to sign 7 guys, including Saad and an Oduya or Leddy, but you will have to trade a large salary guy. that's the nature of the hard cap world.

Do I like it? nope. But that's the difference between the bad vs good vs great gms...making the numbers work short and long term. It's Bowman's time to shine and his responsibility. Never was Toews/Kane. And I haven't read ONE EXPERT who thinks their amounts were too high. Not one......

Again , this is just a chat board .

Folks gotta relax.

Most of the people here are Blackhawk maniacs like myself , look we are type yelling at each other in July over hockey . I love this because when I was growing up I was the only hockey player/fan on my block , almost in my home town. I rarely get discouraged with the new fans because I think its great more people than ever are talking hockey in this town , and in my own little Western Suburb .

I do understand that some of the fantastic posters such as yourself and Wiz and JJ and Al , and Philco , JHawk, ARob , Elbows, Qargh, Jhawk59,BEaver Warrior , Ogi, ELi (MVP poster pre ref days) , get a little frustrated when other topics besides hockey come up . But Guys , as long as this board exists 366 days a year there will be some lul in hockey talk . Not enough hockey news to report . Not enough hockey to talk about .

Everyone has to relax just a little. Keep personal name calling to ZERO , and most of all don't feed the trolls.

If it wasnt for this board Id be sooooooooooo bored at work !! Cheers everyone .

By that logic, Saad should be a nothing player as well. Everyone passed him over once. Some twice.

This is the 1st year saad was consistent and established himself.

Why did they entertain Kesler and sign Richards if teuvo was such a can't miss. A year in Europe. A nothing brief cup of coffee in march. Now all signs point to Rockford.

Point is maybe insisting he IS some star maybe we look at the team's who passed him by and wonder if their call was correct.

All.he is is a prospect. Not a savior. Not. A future star until.he proves otherwise.

Wasn't that due to off ice issue? I think the kid is a stud.

Same thing with Kings Tanner Pearson. Passed up the first eligible draft then passed up until 30th pick in 2012. But that was due more to his "skating ability"

Took skating lessons to improve on mechanics or sonething during AHL as well as Toffoli now they are great.

This was Saad's first full year - he was up the whole 48 game season - not sure how much sooner he could have established himself.

Saying TT isn't ready for this coming year - and I don't think the is - doesn't mean he isn't a "can't miss" - maybe yes, maybe no, don't know yet - but I'm not sure anyone has said said he doesn't have the skates, the hands, and the vision to be an excellent NHL player. Don't know why he slipped so far - size and strength are an issue.

Still a prospect, sure, but I think unfair to be very negative on him.

The answer remains obvious: if you don't like what's being discussed - if you want to talk hockey - TALK HOCKEY - post something hockey related - chances are excellent you'll get appropriate responses.

He played all season his draft year with a groin injury is the story that is most told.
