Heck Jagr and Kariya were making $11-million plus in 1999-2000. How are stars not worth $10.5-million now, 14 years later?

Well deserved raise for the two superstars. Pressure will be on to win this upcoming season. Hang on to sharp and oduya for now.

Its a great day for the blackhawks franchise!

Thanks again, but I guess my point being was that TT is not really a proven top prospect that you guys have, so to put him in a package for a proven player is a no-brainer.
Ex.. TT is no Strome, Druin, etc... but has that ability to maybe be.. right???

- Ur Not Me

The problem with trading TT is that they would be getting a higher paid player. Even if that player is better in the short term or even overall if TT is a bust, they just can't afford it. TT is making the max entry level contract, he's still cheap. They desperately need good, entry level players now more than ever. Maybe he can't be a center, but if Sharp is gone this year or next they have an opening at top 6 left wing. When Hossa declines/retires, there's another opening. TT seems to be the only potential top 6 forward prospect they have right now. Maybe others will pan out, but I don't think anyone at this point is pencilling McNeil/Danault/Hartman, etc. into the top 6 anytime soon.

I think it may be an issue during the first year but as the cap keeps going up the deal will not be looked upon as being a detriment to success.......the cap increased 5 million from last season to this season...assuming the league maintains this increase from here on out.....next year it will be 74...the year after 79....

This probably means Sharp and/or Seabrook will be gone.....but with the emergence of Saad and hopefully a defensive prospect to step up in the near future.....lots of ifs but it's not the end of the hawks by no means.....

- UnnamedSource

US, no, not Seabs. You really think? I know ... Seabs would bring a far greater return. Our D suffers though, and we are basically ANA or StL, without the size and depth up the middle. Sharp and Bickell ... please God, Sharp and Bickell.

Jay Zawaski ‏@JayZawaski670 1m

According to @capgeek : the Hawks have $3,242,372 in cap space for next year. Does not include 20, 27, 32, 5, 8, 12, 16 or 91 (Richards).

Jay Zawaski ‏@JayZawaski670 1m

Translation...someone significant has to go by next season. Sharp? Bickell? Both?

Seabrook > Sharp and Bickell .

Sharp and Bickell's type of skill sets are easier to replace that Seabrook .

Very happy with this news, these guys deserved it. As for who stays and who goes next year, worry about it next year. It will more than likely play itself out but you can bet that Bickell, Sharp and Seabrook will be playing their asses off this year. Nobody wants to be voted off the island so to speak.

Evander Kane is 22 years old ? And a bad ass power forward. I know he is a turd but so was Kane at 22. Eveander Kane shot the puck on goal 260+ times last year , something the Hawks sorely need even with the addition of Richards is to get the puck to the net and see what happens. EKane puts pressure on opposing D behind their own net. EKane could do very well around the leadership of Toews.

TT is 165 lbs soaking wet.

But again , the $ wouldn't work for the Hawks .

- mrpaulish

I'd absolutely roll the dice on E. Kane. At 22, with all that m money, and the way everyone and everything is covered, who wouldn't be caught doing stupid stuff.

Im just intrigued to hear who your guys at a lower cost would be? Not attacking your opinion, just want to get your take
- FourFeathers773

Well, he will probably make more on his next deal, but A. Niemi would be one.

Personally, I think Craig Anderson would be as good (or better) with the Hawk D in front of him. Bobrovsky makes slightly less.

Not sure Brian Elliott isn't as good or nearly as good as Crawford, quite frankly.

Seabrook needs to have a much better year though, if he plays like he did last year I can't see them holding on to a declining d-man with one year left on his deal who will command $7-$8mil on the open market. They'll find someone who's out of town stupid and dump Brent's fat ass on them for a nice haul.
