20% of our payroll tied up in these three guys, and we couldn't improve on that?
- fvineze

Let's look at Bowman's history with bargain bin goalies, shall we? Marty Turco. Nuff said there. Ray Emery. Not as good as Crawford, inconsistent, gives up too many rebounds, and can't play much more than backup minutes before he gets injured. Khabby. This is 2014. If you want an above average starting goaltender, you pay for it. Or you let Turco and Khabby lose you games you should have won by two or three goals. It's almost as if you don't care if we suffer 35 goalie losses a season, so long as Crawford is gone.

Lets also be honest, as much as we rave about how "great" the blackhawks defense is in front of Crawford (and yes they are very good)...

They still struggle mightily to protect the house and clear traffic in front of crawford against the big physical teams

So yes, while their possession metrics are strong and they control most of the game, it still doesnt mask the fact that our huge lack of physicality allows teams to park their winnebago in front of Crawford for as long as they want

Not really sure how much better Lundqvist, Quick, Rinne, etc fair in the same circumstances with guys farting in his crease all night

A quality 2c that wins faceoffs will even that out quickly, mostly by helping the puck possession game.

Lot of talk of the hawks D not clearing the crease. I think its valid to assume that they are doing this on the instruction of either Q or CC. They don't just "fail to clear" guys, they completely ignore them. I think they try to box out if the guy isn't there yet, but if he is there the thinking is that you're just making the screen bigger by jostling with him. I don't know that for sure but the hawks top4+ rozy are plenty strong enough to clear/make life difficult. I think its a tactic. Also likely why the hawks focus on blocking shots.

Pens board just announced that Sid was hurt in the playoffs - will have wrist surgery. Not defending him, just sayin'.

Why do players wait until halfway through the offseason to have surgery? Maybe they thought rehab could fix it.

- bwarner929

He was hurt last season (2013), when the 'Hawks beat the B's?
