A reminder to those who think the Kompon news will solve the problems of the Hawks PP.... Said Power Play was CRAP before he got here.
- mohel

We know who ultimately is responsible for the poop PP, but nobody will admit it to themselves until the 3rd straight PP coach under said "who" plays the same personnel in the same scheme with the same results.

May even be the fourth ... didn't Havi get stuck with running Q's PP scheme for a year?

Someone roll out Q's former assistants/players list to identify potential replacements.

Dare I say Zus retires and joins him and Kitchen behind the bench?

I know a Q apologist such as yourself will have a hard time admitting it, but there's room to criticize the coach on the power play front.

Brasil is struggling a bit today....

I have a vague recollection that Havi and Torchetti traded PK and PP at midseason one year.

Could there be anything worse in sports than being on the short end of an absolute blow-out in an important game - with still 25 minutes left?

I believe you are looking fairly accurately at the big picture. I do not believe that you can categorically make a blanket statement about Nordstrom or Bickel.

I hold hope Nordstrom could become a very reliable 4tC and maybe even a shutdown. He thinks the game well and Q will eventually start to trust him. He needs experience and then an opportunity to gain NHL experience in that role. You cannot say for sure he will or will not succeed any more than you knew how Kruger would turn out three years ago. And with Kruger the complete picture is still not known. It may be a lot more clear if Kruger is given a couple of long stretches - say 10-15 gp - as a #3c with at least one scoring type of wing on his line.

Bickel is not easily replaced. He is capable of producing like he did in the playoffs two years ago. I personally do not think he ever will maintain that level of play for an entire season. He may have a few games a few times during the season where he plays like that....if he stays healthy. Bickel is not whom you move until the last choice whose salary goes. Or darn close to the last salary you choose to move. I am unhappy with his lack of motivation and lack of results during the regular season. But I see him for what he is. And where is the big size physical replacement coming from? Cannot say McNeill, at least not right now.

Another point about your post.

It is highly doubtful that Clendenning is brought up any time soon. First he has to take the next step and by that I mean he has to be better in the AHL. Then should he get a look in the NHL it is a stretch to see him ever be more than a third pair. You will live and die with his overall game. So you are correct when you say that he would be a disaster if he came up (if you meant any time soon) and his long term prognosis isn't very good, either.

The aforementioned is my thinking all along, and reinforced by comments on this board as far as Clendenning goes.

Now if he is a lot better in the AHL this season...I see his future this way: The offensive side you like a lot but the defensive side is probably always going to be a concern. I just do not think he ever gets a lot of ice in Chi unless he has a reliable partner on his pairing. So, Clendenning cannot even be thought of as part of the potential group that could play in Chi at least until some time half way or late next season after he has shown better....And then he would never have any spot long term in Chi anyway.

Considering the other prospects have some offensive ability I would hope that Fournier, Johns, VanReimsdycke prove better defensively than Clendenning ever will.

There are a couple of collegiate dmen whom I have heard have made strides in their development, but as far as I know none could be considered or projected as anything but minor league fodder. The swede, Norrell, maybe he has a chance to be ok.not enough data on him to say much right now.

This is all very premature for the dmen prospects. Johns has things he is not good at and only Dahlbeck is ready for an NHL challenge. But Johns has a lot of good things to like in his ability and demeanor. I would like to see him be a regular third pair dman one day, and I would like to see if Dahlbeck could progress to the level of the fourth best dman on the team.

Whether the other kids on "d" work out is too big a question to answer....better than Clendenning is my guess. But fans just have to wait and see how all perform in the AHL for at least half season before guessing at their future. A future that may be many competing for two jobs on defense, maybe three if one is a reserve 7th. I am not projecting anyone any time soon on Chicago blueline other than Dahlbeck.

No, not as much as I would like to ....still no for Johns for the time being.

The power play has been an issue long before Kompon arrived. The PK seems to fluctuate every other year too. Probably can say this about every team though.

Hawks should hire Gretzky to run their power play.

Then he can hang out in Chicago more and be closer to his kid and the person he said he'd like to play with the most, " Patrick Kane".

He's not available. He just signed a two year deal as Steve Ott's towel boy.
