Santorelli wasn't the offensive catalyst the Sedins had hoped for?
- Woderwick

You guys will like what Santo brings, he's small but gritty and determined in the corners, and plays a pretty decent cycle game. He can move up and down the lineup too, so coach should like him too.

Not really. OV was listed at 2.5 mill for 2014 at #2 for hockey and if you compare sports. The second best player in the NBA was Kobe at 32 million. Its just a perspective of sports I guess. Hockey players have a tough time getting endorsement money which makes the whole Bolland thing kinda acceptable. If he wants to get paid, just get paid. I got no problem with it; the leafs avoided having another Clarkson.

which ones?

Pretty much any of them.

Besides faceoff ability, what else does he bring?

The whole point was that there are other options for income that offset the tax excuse. He was in for the highest bidder from the beginning. The Leafs made a huge offer...it was a home team discount...just as he said he was willing to accept...but he didn't accept it. His right, and it worked out for the leafs...just dont feed the fans and media bullcrap about wanting to stay...its just a bargaining chip.

The teams Toronto have been losing out to in free agency have a lot better prospects for the future. Panthers have a ton of really good young players, Tampa has that plus a good NHL roster already. Toronto has what exactly? A 2 line team, weak defence, and extremely few high-end prospects or young players in their system? There's no future there and there's no present either. They need to do a real rebuild if they want to build up enough depth to become a destination for free agents. Just being a team that's been around forever doesn't cut it.

Who cares what his agent said after. He's signed with Florida and it's done and over with. That's what I say.

Toronto is in a flux atm. They were good for 80% of the season and a playoff team, but that doesnt stick with any player coming in... They mostly see the collapse and then they dont wanna be dubbed the saviour and take on that pressure that we fans put on the players. Until the leafs make the playoffs again, they will have a tough time getting the attention of free agents.

Try to tell a Hawks fan that. They're good because they're the best franchise and they've all been fans their whole lives, not just since they drafted Toews.
- SolidGoldBricks

Yeah f'in right. I have vivid memories of Chicago in the early 2000's and you couldn't find a game on TV anywhere, the arena was a complete ghost town, to this day I've never seen an arena as empty as the United Center was so regularly. Don't worry though the poopty beer was still $9.

it's not a bad thing not to be able to attract the top UFAs.
