If Plan A was re-signing Bolland @ 4.9 and trading Franson for Gorges, I'm OK with plan B
- TheThrill

My point is that the Leafs management don't really seem to have a clear plan.

Bullpoop. The Detroit Red Wings are testament to a well-managed hockey organization that has drafted well without high picks.
- fifty__missions

I'm hoping the signing and drafting of some Euro's, as well as the low-cost signings of this off-season are an indication that Shanny is bringing a bit of that Detroit mentality here.

We can only hope

Holland will already be in the line up.
We paid 3 mil for komarov, so 3 mil for Ott wont be too bad.

- Fakepartofme

The problem is management knows it needs another solid pick up for the pk.

Absolutely.. I don't think Bolland is worth more than 3 million.. Yes he scored some big playoff goals but really? that money for Dave Bolland? WE already gave the insane contract last year to Clarkson just thrilled that the msitake wasnt repeated. Good luck in Florida to Average Joe
- Popcorn Kid

Welcome to the new NHL.
You want quality depth players that get you into the playoffs and deep...you have to pay and luck out on the some cheap finds along the way......which eventually become expensive.

No I kid, , Benning is steering the ship on the right path.

big question in Vancouver is, are the Sedins done or did Torts just destroy them last year?

I was wondering how far Benning will go, do the Sedins and Bieksa last the year? Or do they ride out those contracts as leaders on the teams. With Miller signed, I think they will keep them and retool.

So the fix is changing the draft structure for 30 teams so Toronto is rewarded for a poor drafting record?
- Deeps27

Ah ya.
Whats the problem with that.

Bettman needs to pull a Pittsburgh and ensure McDavid is a leaf so that he can save the organization.

It will only mean more money in Bettman's pockets.

I expect half of them make it to the NHL and if we're lucky 3/4 of them end up on the big club.

Development is half the battle....

so you're saying that any time a player has found out that they were included in a trade proposal by their GM, their career with that team was over? i don't think so. just because Franson was the player going the other way, doesn't mean the Leafs don't want him.
- DoubleDown

yeah cause franson fits this bill

lets get more specific and stop being assumptive

third time going to arbitration with the leafs, held out twice benched a ton in his first couple years, and now they tried to trade him to their oldest rival

you honestly think this relationship hasnt been fried?

Until someone takes the first line center position away from Hank, which doesn't appear to be any time soon, he'll be our number one guy going forward. Given properly managed minutes, they'll be 60+ point players...I have no doubts.

14m is tough to absorb unless the Canucks eat a large portion of their contracts but I don't see them being split up - they both stay or go to the same team

I believe Garth had made a pitch for them but now he has his new twins

no, it's absolutely ridiculous. the idea of "tanking" is stupid too, especially with a cap floor. this isn't baseball. no one can pull a Houston in the NHL. no one tanks. no one sets out to suck. teams try to be good and through incompetence and sheer mathematics, they suck. and when you suck, you have 2 options: stay the course and continue to suck or strip to the studs and rebuild. there is absolutely NOTHING noble about striving for mediocrity, which is what teams like Montreal and Toronto have done for years. the system works fine.

I respectfully disagree

Tort's system seemed to eff up everyone last year. It was low points for almost everyones career.

I expect a bounce back, but the next 3 - 4 years will be the downturn of their careers. Hopefully the young guys can step in a take their spots, maybe they'll be our 2nd line in 2016.

I edited my post that with Miller signed, I don't see them unloading the three players, makes no sense.

Yes, at least one local business offering you $1M to promote their brand/product. That was an easy one.

Just my opinion, but in my mind they've earned the right to retire as Canucks, they're still productive players, as well they're the franchises #1 & #2 all-time leading scorers.

Re-tool on the fly it would seem.

If the Leafs managed their strength on the wing to somehow land a young #1 center they'll be in a good position going forward.
