The draft is a joke. Here is why

- Teams can intentionally throw the season, suck ass, and suffer through poor attendance and revenue but be kept afloat from revenue sharing

- These teams are REWARDED with the highest draft picks and the next generation of best players (and through the CBA and stuff like RFA, retained with relative ease). These young players generally are less of a cap hit too.

- These teams go on to become elite teams

- Teams that play with integrity and do not purposefully throw the season are DISADVANTAGED by having mediocre draft picks. These teams are keeping the other teams alive through revenue sharing. These teams don't get the best young talent and to stay competitive they must pay older players more $$$ to play for them. They are constantly battling the cap.

The NHL needs to make the draft completely random and that is the only way it is fair

- Atreides

I heard an interesting proposal where the draft wouldn't be based on the reverse standings, but a rolling system where each team picks 1st once every 30 years (or however many teams exist within the league.) I'm not sure if it would go 1, 2, 3 or 1, 27, 11, etc., more of a random order.

That would completely eliminate the opportunity for tanking, but would also be really difficult for small market teams to draw interest if they have been unsuccessful for years and have a 5 year stretch of picking 15-25 or whatever.

Thought it was an interesting idea, but I doubt it could be viable.

I don't know how this has become a fact. It's not a fact - it's a factoid.

He was 8th in ESTOI/G in the playoffs.

5th in SHTOI/G (that really surprised me - I would have thought he'd be 1-2)

5th in PPTOI/G

Put it all together and he was 7th in TOI/G for LA forwards.

That doesn't smell like 4th line to me.

- Atomic Wedgie

I am not arguing either way..but this is the 5v5 TOI per game (roughly)
each played 26 games playoffs

Richards - 11
Kopitar - 14
Carter - 12.5
Stoll - 13.5

yeah hes not exaclty the best point producer, i never pick him in my hockey pools.
- big_dion

He's assumed he has good leadership qualities because he's the captain but they have tons of leadership on that team and lead and play like a team.

Who's to say he is the true leader on that team because he has a letter stitched on his shirt?

in burns defense i did hear that brown was slagging hard and there was some reports they were not pleased with his output, as for trading i dont know, but i did hear some crap about LA not exacly overly impressed in the big picture.

2 cups in 3 years ...well, you dont have to put up the big points to get the job done..not when you have the team he has.

- big_dion

can't complain about 2 cup. But he was far less effective this time around than last. That's all I said..... and that there were rumors of the Kings trying to move him. poop the Leafs were talked about as one of the teams.

i'm leaving it at this

the leafs do not win a damned thing with this core, coach or GM

they'll scrape into the playoffs and everyone will go ape poop and think its awesome.. but the leafs are, at the very best, a middle of the road team

- Dozzer

First off, ape poop makes great fertilizer.

Second, I remain convinced of one thing: the Leafs have to get good before they can get great.

Two-three years of making the playoffs and winning a round or two. Get the stink out of the uniform.

Then maybe second-pairing crap like Gorges won't hesitate to come here.

Baby steps.

if the flyers could move vinny and that contract, they'd have some wiggle room to do a couple more things before camp starts

ok let's make this real simple. who do you take: Jeff Carter or Dustin Brown?

i will give you two guesses and one hint: the right answer is Jeff Carter.
