that has nothing to do with the point.
its about managing assets.. maximizing the return if you are moving them.

I would keep Franson over a 2nd.
move him when a team is more desperate or we have a new coach who doesnt kill his D value

- senstroll

This is sound thinking unless Franson is even slower than he was last year. Sign Ranger and keep him around just in case.
Does anyone know how Finn has looked at the prospect camp?

- Dozzer

important doesnt mean core player.

lets not confuse terminology here.

- Dozzer

semantics, lol

He was part of the two that makes him a core looking at ice time, no?

even if a team is desperate, you're not getting more than that for Franson. what you've said here? that's a wonderful ideal. it's a highly unlikely reality.
- DoubleDown

he has more value to the leafs than a 2nd ..so keep him then.
if the right deal came up..sure move him.

holmgren was forced to make those deals by ownership however.

and neither carter or richards are core players in LA imo

- Dozzer

Agreed on both counts. Richards more so than Carter. JC was a beast this past year. But they do have Stanley Cups.

Bob is just a tragedy. If there's one knock of Philly all these years, it's their lackluster goaltending (Leighton/Boucher to the finals???). They make a seemingly lateral goalie swap and Bob goes Beastmode

Insane to keep Boland, Kulemin, Grabovski for all that money.
- RogerRoeper

never once did i say keep bolland

kulemin would have resigned in Toronto for 3 mil if they didnt (frank) over his best friend the day before his wedding.

grabo at 5.5 is MAYBE a mil overpaid, in the new cap, hes making 5 for isles, if you still think hes way off, well guess what, your wrong.

everyone screaming "nobody wants to go to TO" the media, blah blah, no no, its the coach, nobody wants to play for this guy, hes a joke. no time out in game 7, you are fired, end of story, thats how it should have finished.

Richards was one of the top players in Stanley Cup I.

I'm happy to argue he was still pretty important in Stanley Cup II.

- Atomic Wedgie

No argument from me. Wish he was a Leaf right now.

don't expect nonis to pull off any amazing trades, he never did when with vancouver and he won't now.

he wants way too much for his players and other gm's just won't do those deals.

Yeah but if we take risks now and lose out on them we will just miss them more. Nonis took a risk in drafting Nylander this year and hopefully it pans out.
- Yeti1181

The worst 1st round draft pick that Dave Nonis made (one of the worst draft picks in canuck history, and they have made many poor choices) was Patrick White. Absolutely crazy. Unforgivable.

Did he give you one at Christmas, and then you mumbled "(frank)en hat" under your breath as you had to wear it in front of your friends.
- Woderwick

That's pretty funny. Never got a hat from him. His company was pretty young when I was his paper boy.

I always got a Leafs team Christmas card from Vaive. And a pretty good tip - although it was always from his wife (please, no crude jokes - this is a family site).

could the have won without him?

yes.. with a similar offensive player in his spot i say yes

could they have won without quick, brown's leadership, or doughty?

not a damned chance.

Grabovski would be a 3rd liner in Toronto. The coach wanted him. gone Bozak and Kadri outplayed him when they made the playoffs.

Overpaying for supporting pieces is not the way to go.

The Leafs shouldn't concern themselves with a wedding when making decisions.

But wasn't he shipped out in a trade that brought Ehrhoff? CE was pretty important in that cup run of 2011, no?

there is a big difference between being a 3rd line talent and your coach using you as a 3rd line player when you are not.

That's not exactly true. Luongo from FLA was one of his but that had more to do with Keenan lunacy than anything else.
