there are some NFLers too. Manning, Rodgers, Brady... just crazy numbers. - DoubleDown
Yeah. In terms of overall salary, hockey players make peanuts to guys in bigger sports. Sid is arguably the best player but he only makes 21% of Lebron James' salary in a year. |

it's not a bad thing not to be able to attract the top UFAs. - DoubleDown
No it's not. I think it forces the management team to work harder internally to make the roster better by focusing on development and giving young guys chances but I just dont see that happening with Nonis. The guy is trying too hard to be Burke 2.0 that he's becoming JFJ 2.0 |

Yeah f'in right. I have vivid memories of Chicago in the early 2000's and you couldn't find a game on TV anywhere, the arena was a complete ghost town, to this day I've never seen an arena as empty as the United Center was so regularly. Don't worry though the poopty beer was still $9. - Mr_Smokey
a lot of that can be chalked up to Bill Wirtz. he was a terrible owner. and the team was awful. i got news for you--EVERY market in the NHL outside of Toronto is susceptible to what Chicago went through. |

So back to saying Bolland can get 1 mill in endorsements in the GTA was bit of a stretch by the person who stated it. |

The teams Toronto have been losing out to in free agency have a lot better prospects for the future. Panthers have a ton of really good young players, Tampa has that plus a good NHL roster already. Toronto has what exactly? A 2 line team, weak defence, and extremely few high-end prospects or young players in their system? There's no future there and there's no present either. They need to do a real rebuild if they want to build up enough depth to become a destination for free agents. Just being a team that's been around forever doesn't cut it. - clematrix
In Bolland's case he's won everything there is to win basically plus he did experience playing in Toronto (even if it was just a cup of coffee). He probably thought leafs are going to be bad and rather than get the Clarkson treatment, why not take more money and play in Sunny Florida instead? It's a 2 hour flight from 'home' for him anyways.
As for the other UFAs spurning the buds; playing in a hockey market when you are winning is amazing. When the team is crap it's a nightmare. |

So, he said he would take a significant discount to play with the Leafs and then "Thun indicated that the Leafs offer was “not literally close in any way, shape or form until Noon on July 1” and that the Panther’s offer(5 years, $27.5 Million) was $800,000 better per season than Toronto’s final offer"
So, he wasn't willing to sign for an $800,000 difference, despite saying he would take a significant discount.
And don't use that tax BS because it simply isn't something 93% of the league can offer. He's greedy and trying to hide behind it. what a tool - ILoveLamp
I noticed that when he joked saying I went for the weather and laughed. He was telling the truth.
