well i would hope Marc Bergevin is a better negotiator than Dave Nonis. but i would tend to lean towards that way too. i don't think PK will do the team any favours.
- DoubleDown

MB will probably go the route of asking him if he liked going to the ECF
He will ensure him that he will bring in big ticket players to help and spend to the cap but he will need cap space to bring in these players whether be at the deadline or as ufas
I think he takes a friendly number 8 x 8
Because he's got to be making big sponsor dollars

Indeed and nothing more. The fact Bergevin was among the finalists for the Vrbata signing makes me think Eller will be soon packaged for offensive help.

Who out there is available? What would you give out other than Eller?

So you are saying a longer contract is out of the question for Eller??

Isn't it playing with fire giving him a 2 years deal?? Wouldn't he hit free agency after that contract??

- soad_live

I'm saying a short contract is most likely. Probably 1 year.

Eller has a skill set? I don't know that they aren't comparable insofar as the role that they are expected to play. Until Eller is consistent - if he ever is - he is a defensive center and chips in a bit of offense, just like Boyle.

The UFA vs. RFA is a valid point.

- hscesq

I mean literally, Eller can't use Boyle as a comparable on UFA vs RFA. And Eller being 25, has room to grow into role. He's got a lot more upside. 1 year is probably best for both sides.

Bourque and Eller kind of pulled the same thing during the last season. Very inconsistent season finished by a very a productive playoff.

Give Eller a last chance with a very affordable 1.75-2M$ per contract. Last year to play Galchenyuk at the wing, If Eller doesn't prove his consistency, you trade/move him wathever (unless he accepts a 4th line center job, which I doubt). Put Galchenyuk as 3rd center.

As for Subban, the question is how much money Bergevin he can shave off that huge contract, but I agree that at some point, the player should think about what his contract implies for the rest of the players. 10 M$ and I'll be rich like a mother franker or 8,5 $M and I'll be rich like a mother franker AND have a decent chance to get a competitive team. I guess it's hard to argue what it's like when you're in that position...

He swallowed his pill and took the bridge deal. I know he can be a wild horse at times but Therrien seems to want to go out of his way to reign him in. The benchings and the team Canada healthy scratch treatment with no backing from the Habs. All that in spite of his Norris trophy and consistent 100% effort night in and night out. If I'm PK, I go for the max.
- habfanforever

i don't see what the Olympics has to do with this. what was Therrien supposed to do? write an open letter to Mike Babcock and Steve Yzerman? what coaches were out there stumping for their players? why is Therrien the only coach in the NHL who got blasted for this?

and we love to rip on Therrien for his treatment of Subban while conveniently neglecting a very important truth, and that is that Subban's game grown exponentially in Therrien's 2 years here. can't have it both ways.

i agree that PL goes for the max, but this perceived mistreatment stuff is horsepoop.

if Subban wants to play in Montreal long term then getting him signed shouldn't be that tough. even if the club has to shell out $1-$1.5 million more AAV than they'd like. that money is not worth losing him over. i understand that he's got them bent over the barrel right now but there are many players who were in the same position as PK currently is who sucked it up and didn't hold out for that ridiculous mega contract and instead signed a contract that was digestible for the team and left them with a manageable cap situation. the question is, does PK think the same way? or is his primary focus to suck as much money and cap space from this team as he can?
- DoubleDown

All he wants is to be paid what he's earned and what he's worth. He's not looking to bleed anyone dry or screw up the team. That's the honest truth. He won't sign for less than his market value, and his market value is very very high.

the highest cap hit in the game is what, $9.5 million? so what's his market value? because he's not the game's best player. he's not the game's best defenceman. should he have the highest cap hit in the game? i don't think so. i think $8-$9 million is a reasonable figure. i think anything over $9 million is getting into "bleed dry" territory.

They should just let Subban play. Forget about putting the "C" on him. Give him an "A" and just let him play. Eller? 2.5max!

therrien sucks on many levels but one of them has not been his handling of PK subban who has gone from the AHL to winning a norris trophy and playing almost 30 minutes a night.

boo-hoo sometimes he doesn't play the last 30 seconds.

assuming we lived in a world where Montreal and Boston would make a deal, Loui Eriksson would be a target.

Who's the two guys he brought in for the development camp? Would they be a consideration?
- l3ig_l2ecl

Eric Veilleux (Baie-Comeau) and Dominique Ducharme (Halifax) I think

I have no idea if they are going to be considered. Therrien will surely want someone he already knows well

He deserves to suck all the money he can from the Habs for all the poop he's been taking from them and Therrien.
