Who is available in trade on defence?

Phaneuf
Leddy
Oduya
Myers
????

- jimmc7722

I wouldnt be so quick to put Myers on your list? If I was the GM of Buffalo, the last thing I would be doing is trading to the team that owes me a first round pick next year, a #2 defenceman? If I'm Buffalo I'm hoping the Islanders crash & burn and give me a chance to draft McDavid.

Your theory has no method... The islanders are not a Sharp player away, so with that said, the islanders are a rebuilding team and these kids hold the cards to their future. Sharp will only add to JT's W but so has others. Again CHI would make that trade in a nano-second bc of Stromes potential, why do you think CHI wasn't trading TT for Kesler???

Would your team trade Reinhart for Sharp? Or whoever your top tier offensive prospect you have?

- Ur Not Me

The isles could use Sharp. They need a top four d-man, really a top pair d-man. No sense trading prime assets away for a position that is not a dire need. Forward is not a dire need for the isles. Defense is.

Bailey & grabs have to be the 2 biggest underachievers, currently. If we could trade just Bailey for anyone of value, I would be impressed. But my gut tells me it will take more. Bailey/Grabs or Bailey/Neilsen or Bailey/Donovan for a top 2 Dman is totally worth it.
- jmo16

Grabs will go before Bailey. Only because he has been the more versatile and productive of the two. Bailey won't bring back enough in a trade to warrant moving him. I hate to say it but they are almost better off playing it out with Bailey than moving him for pennies on the dollar.

Bringing in grabovski (and kumelin) to me made Grabner expendable.

I think it makes Bailey expendable. He doesn't have a spot in the top six. He doesn't kill penalties. He's got no heart. Say goodbye to him. Garth has.

Oh I would hope he does better. 20 points last year. Maybe he will get over 10 goals next year. Or maybe over 20 points! His defence is sub par. 4 million cap hit for 4 years is an awful contract for him. Don't expect him to be anything special because he is not at all. His last contract was an overpayment at 3 million.

Grabo will most likely live up to his contract and I thought that was a good signing.A tad overpaid but a tad overpaid is what you get in free agency.

i think the combo of two of grabs, bailey and donovan can yield a dman
- Dan Petriw

Donovan or Neilsen. Any of those 3 would be worth a legit top 2. These are the assets Garth has in spades. I dont want to see 1st rounders dealt but for the right player you have to consider all options.

You guys need a great winger and top 4 dman/PP point man.

Sharp, Leddy, & a mid level prospect

for

Nielson, Martin, & Strome

- Dannyboy

I'd do that deal except for one change... I'd send you Franz N, Martin & our 5th overall pick this year Michael Dal Colle. Strome is our second line center of the future and Franz is our current second line center, probably dropped to third. We'd be taking on a ton of cap space in taking on Sharp & Leddy 8.2 million combined. We are clearing cap space for you. We aren't giving all our strength down the middle so you can beef up against the LAs and Anaheims of the west.

No way. You would need to trade ALL THREE and MAYBE get a second pair dman. Grabner is hoping for a bounce back year. Bailey is hoping for a "finally show up" year. Donovan had a terrible rookie year. Any GM who takes those three and gives up a top 4 dman won't have a job at the end of the season.

Any move for a top 4 dman will probably ask for Franz in return. If the Isles are trading for a top 4, we will need to give more than our dust bin boys. Everyone knows we have too many forwards under contract.

No. Grabs will go before Bailey because Bailey was Snow's first draft pick. Grabs was a dust bin acquisition that got us 30 goals at no cost and if he can be flipped to get something bigger Garth will take a victory lap.

Bailey might very well be involved in a deal because I still think teams look at him as something they can develop. We shall see.

I'd but Sharp in our lineup in a heartbeat. We need a top pair dman too, but we really need two top 4 dmen. I'll settle for one and Sharp.

Having a PP or Sharp, KO and JT? Hello!!!!

I think those two players just are what they are. The one issue we're going to have is if we're going to move Bailey for a d-man from one of the "cap challenged" teams, Wang is going to have to write at least half that check.

As I said, I'm guessing Bailey is going to be difficult to move, because of that contract. Of course, as I also said, I'd be happy with a steady 5. I don't need a top four defenseman, because that deal is likely going to be stupid. Besides, we probably have four of them in the system- if our defense, three years from now, is de Haan-Reinhart-Pulock-Hamonic-one of the other prospects-one solid, bottom pair FA, with the forwards we have, we'll be in business.

Well, that and the teams looking to move defensemen won't want to pay Bailey $4M a year.

IF the rumors about the Vanek offers were true this may not be a likely scenario, but Garth could always eat a chunk of Bailey's contract ($3.3M, not $4M) to make the trade work if it's for a defenseman that he really covets.

Haven't been on here in a while but I had to stop in to say this. I have, like many of you, been down on this team for a long time. I am proud to say this team has improved greatly. The only hole is on defense, and I am confident it will be filled before September.

I think this past year has been our final test. Watching them take a huge step back overall from the year before, the JT injury, the Vanek fiasco, and watching that other team make a run to the finals was about as poopty of a year an Islander fan can imagine.

We have a lot of things to look forward to in the near future. Lets Go Islanders
