Break it down this way.

Sharp for Martin & Strome

Leddy & mid level prospect for Nielson

Sounds like a good deal for both teams to me

- Dannyboy

great breakdown...although your analysis sucks.

i wouldnt do either deal on its own.

It's steep, no doubt, but I think that is what it would take to get a guy like Hjlarmsson and also Sharp. I would be willing to bet that the Hawks fan that was here earlier wouldn't think it would be enough. It would weaken the Hawks in the short term, and significantly strengthen the Islanders.

I think any possible deal between the Hawks and Islanders would require Hjalarmsson to go back to the Island, a player who I am sure the Hawks are not interested in moving. But, the Isles need a Top 4 defensemen in a deal, and the Hawks need to shed salary (perhaps by bringing in cheaper guys that can play for them soon on entry level deals).

If the Islanders wanted to win sooner rather than later, and cash in some of their prospects for guys that can help them win now, I would think a deal would something like:

Sharp and Hjlarmsson for Strome, Reinhart, another good prospect, and some lower cost excess forwards on the Isles that can play a little bit. But Hjlarmsson is a bonafide stud on the backline, so I couldn't believe that the Hawks would move him short of getting blown away by a deal.

while i dont think that deal is unfair...i just dont see a need for such a big blockbuster. id rather speak with a cap-strapped team and help them by taking a big contract off their books.

I'm telling you guys we will need that depth up front. Now we can scratch non performers and have decent call ups during injuries. Like i mentioned on pointblank we were 16th in the league shots against and 30th in the league goals against. I always found that our forwards were never defensively responsible which made our defense look bad. Don't get me wrong we dont have the best defensive group in the league. With grobovski and Kulemin defensively responsible forwards our team defense will improve and 2 top notch goalies. I don't thinkit s necessary to 2 or 3 good players to put all our eggs in one basket such a yandle or Dion Phaneuf. We need veteran/quality defenseman to stabalize the blue line. Vis, dahann, hamonic Veteran defenseman then you got Reinhart Hickey, Ness, Donavan, Johnson, Mayfield, Czu, Strait Carkener to fill in the last 2 spots or injuries. Good goaltender will make a huge difference and increase the confidence of the D. Those blown leads was all confidence.

supposedly Phanuef, Green, and Myers are being shopped.. I would take any of those on the Isles. I have no problem add Phanuef.. none. He can hit, play a ton of minutes, and would be a huge upgrade.
- niteislander

He's not.

If he was our GM stated it would take a crazy offer to get him. He laughed at trading him for a 1st rounder in an interview

Add in Nielson with Strome, Reinhart, & another good prospect and I'd do it. Would give the Hawks $10M in cap space subtracting out Hammer and Sharp. Adding in Nielson, Strome and a dman or two, the Hawks would have cap space to play with after the fact too. Strome and Reinhart are very nice prospects, but Sharp & Hammer are sure things. Would take a hell of a lot to make that deal. Crazy talk to trade Hammer on the Hawks part, but a deal like that would make me think twice.

Listen to what you are saying. You have 9 players signed to one way contracts all vying for the last two spots. That's 7 dmen signed in the NHL that are gonna jus sit out????

Not trolling at all. Hammer is the #3 dman on the Hawks, but would be a 1 or 2 on almost every other team. Sharp is a pretty damn good winger.

They wouldn't be had for bits and pieces.

Your top 2 prospects and Nielson is not delusional for Hammer & Sharp.
