You guys need a great winger and top 4 dman/PP point man.

Sharp, Leddy, & a mid level prospect

for

Nielson, Martin, & Strome

- Dannyboy

Where's the top 4 d-man?

Also...no. Never.

I wouldn't make that trade for Sharp, Leddy and Teuvo. Let alone a "mid-level prospect".

If they underachievd last year, what makes you think any team wants them in exchange for a player of value like a second pair d-man or better? Every team has third and fourth line forwards and low pair d-men that usually get swapped for change of scenery etc.
- Fan101

He literally said right smack in the middle of his post that he's not suggesting that all or any of the players he listed would bring back what we need.

here is something i want to throw out there. Maybe we loaded up on Foward b/c Tavares isnt 100%. wouldnt anyone be suprised if SnowMan suprised us with some info like that right before the season started.
- Spartiarti

If JT were not healthy, we would know about it from Canadian media.
Despite playing in the biggest market in the northern hemisphere our media gives squat attention to hockey. But he's pretty popular in Canada and they wouldn't be able to keep that under wraps.

HEY GARTH: Suggestion: The ENTIRE TEAM should show up at his place in about 3 weeks and train with JT until camp starts. Wanna see a VAST improvement? That's a start.

This team should make the playoffs as is. The defense may be young, unproven or a different question mark in Visnovsky, but the goaltending is credible and the forward depth is now the best in the conference. It could just be that, for once, the Isles will be doing the waiving at the end of training camp instead of looking to fill out their roster with other teams' cuts.

Unless it is for Phaneuf!!!
- jimmc7722

Not sure what your hard on is for Phaneuf, but by looking at your info, you're from Ontario and in that case, you would have watched the Leafs play a lot of hockey. I'm from Ontario too and I see lots of games and he is the most overrated, overpaid defense-man in the NHL. He is as useful as a pylon in a hockey game. I'm not trying to start a fight here, but he hasn't been good since he played for Calgary.

I'd give the edge to TBL in that category but we're up there, speaking purely to forward depth.

Break it down this way.

Sharp for Martin & Strome

Leddy & mid level prospect for Nielson

Sounds like a good deal for both teams to me

No, it sounds like a terrible deal for the Islanders. Nielsen is a fantastic two way center, not to mention the handful of points he helps us steal by being lights-out in the shootout. Leddy and whatever mid-level prospect you're sending aren't even in the same universe as the price tag for Nielsen.

Sharp at 30y/o for one of our top young prospects probably won't happen. I like him a lot but I like having JT-Grabovski-Nielsen down the middle a lot better.

I think any possible deal between the Hawks and Islanders would require Hjalarmsson to go back to the Island, a player who I am sure the Hawks are not interested in moving. But, the Isles need a Top 4 defensemen in a deal, and the Hawks need to shed salary (perhaps by bringing in cheaper guys that can play for them soon on entry level deals).

If the Islanders wanted to win sooner rather than later, and cash in some of their prospects for guys that can help them win now, I would think a deal would something like:

Sharp and Hjlarmsson for Strome, Reinhart, another good prospect, and some lower cost excess forwards on the Isles that can play a little bit. But Hjlarmsson is a bonafide stud on the backline, so I couldn't believe that the Hawks would move him short of getting blown away by a deal.

supposedly Phanuef, Green, and Myers are being shopped.. I would take any of those on the Isles. I have no problem add Phanuef.. none. He can hit, play a ton of minutes, and would be a huge upgrade.

here is why Colin McDonald should be showed the door.

8 Goals in 70 games and a -22 rating. Capuano thinks he is second best foward on team by the amount of ice time he gave him.

this guy has no business in the NHL.

- Spartiarti

McDonald or Capuano?

Phaneuf on the team would result in 10 or so LESS cheap shots a season on Tavares...

That's a steep price. I love Hjalmarsson and I really like Sharp but that's a lot to consider.

some of you guys make it seem like training with JT is the answer to everything... its no more than a drop in the bucket. some of you should watch Space Jam-- Spoiler Alert: The special juice was just water, they just had to believe in themselves.

It's steep, no doubt, but I think that is what it would take to get a guy like Hjlarmsson and also Sharp. I would be willing to bet that the Hawks fan that was here earlier wouldn't think it would be enough. It would weaken the Hawks in the short term, and significantly strengthen the Islanders.
