I didn't say he wasn't good, all I said was he's not lights out as a defender.
Lets not put Bogosian in the category of shut Dmen, bc he's not (right now or if he'll ever be??).

- Ur Not Me

No you're right but, you said he wasn't lights out defensemen and posted his offensive stats. He is a solid defensemen but like you said he's not lights out such as a weber. He's better than average.

not surprising at all, little disappointed how they handled him and who he got stuck playing with. I think if we paired him with dehaan he'd be a far more effective player, sticking him with martinek or carkner was like kicking him in the nuts.

so we can try and draft and develop another one. We've already put that time into Donovan and thanks to pairing him with a couple of boat anchors we don't even know what we have yet.

just asking... What if Donovan was able to fetch maybe a 2nd or 3rd pick in a loaded draft?

I'm not disagreeing that we really don't know what Donovan can turn out 2 be but since we might have too many Dmen on 1way contracts. Now if he gets a 2way contract and able to be in Bport, then I'd rather still keep him...

they are not mailing it in they are just not being coached
- kasperrko

Exactly....they love the coach because he is a nice guy who doesn't sh*t on them when they suck. That doesn't mean they want to suck, it's just how they'd answer the question, "what do you think of the coach?" Gut reaction is, "he's great, because I don't lose my ice time when I play like a child who has never been taught anything." That's not necessarily "wanting" to lose...it's just human nature.

Listen, I'm the last one to back coach Crapuano but giving him the benefit of the doubt, we've never had a team on the ice like we will this year. That being said, it should make his leashe even shorter. If he isn't getting the job done he will be lucky to see December. If he wants to prove himself he finally has a team to do it
- bjpgallagher

If they fall flat again this year, and he makes it anywhere near December, the GM needs to go, too- immediately.

Guys you want Bogosian and Kane you aren't getting them with trade offers that the computer on Xbox would laugh at
- Dan Petriw

Bogosian, I'd have to consider. Haven't paid much attention to him since before his draft, but if he's good, he might be worth it at the right price. A good defenseman is what we need right now more than anything. Kane I have no interest in- a king's ransom for a player that is by all accounts a MAJOR LEAGUE headache. No thank you....

I haven't followed all the Kane drama very closely, but the parts I have seem quite overblown. I mean, he took crap there I think last year for saying he was tired of finishing out of the playoffs or something like that. The context was clearly that he was ready to kick butt and wanted the team to come out strong and make the playoffs, but it was somehow spun into this whole nonsense about how he didn't want to be there and was implying he wanted to be traded. I don't know, maybe folks there get defensive about players wanting to be there, but Kane seems to have quite a few quotes twisted into supposed insults against Winnipeg.

It's not he reason they are successful. I'm not saying sutter isn't a good coach but, that LA team is stacked from top to bottom and in my opinion have the best defensmen in the league. It's easy to match up lines when you have the players to do it. For me it's hard to evaluate Capuano to this point. He's almost a 500 record on lets be real really bad teams. I think after this year will determine how good of coach he is. Bringing in two experience coaches will make a difference as well. I read somewhere Cronin is a no nonsense type coach. Lets
- dack1972

They don't play defense, at all. That would include the team that made the playoffs in 2013, and the disaster we saw this past season. If they had played Boston in the first round in 2013, they'd have lost four, 3-1, games in a row. They were just lucky they played another team that doesn't play defense in that round, which made everyone mistakenly think they were better than they were.

It has little if anything to do with the talent, which especially up front is better than a lot of people think- if this team brought its lunch pails to work and played defense every night, and still finished under .500, I'd buy that, but there were at least 20-25 occasions last year (not counting another 10 games where the goaltending wasn't worth sh*t) where they directly caused their own problems by skating around in circles, being totally out of position, not covering each other, not taking bodies (not bothering to do anything) in front of the net, doing that half a$$ed shot block deal where they just end up screening the goaltender- not to mention having all five guys caught up past the dots in the offensive zone, at the same time. All five guys shouldn't BE that far up the ice at the same time, EVER, never mind being caught there. You can teach a dog not to do that, so needless to say, one would hope that has NOTHING to do with talent, unless you think we still have 20 players on the main roster who all totally suck.

That's simply coaching, or a distinct lack thereof, period. Talent is what makes one goaltender better than another- for another example, it's what made Mike Bossy better at scoring goals than pretty much everyone else. However, you can pretty much teach anyone with mediocre NHL level talent to play defense properly, as a well-oiled machine, if you work on it, and insist on it. These guys have a fantasy world game plan, and there's no discipline, and no accountability- this was clearly obvious when one watched them play last year.

I understand what you're saying but there's no guarantee we'd end up with a player of equal ability. I'd like to see him play without being saddled with a player who shouldn't be in the NHL before I get an idea of what he can be. We've already put this much time into him, why throw him away for a pick when we're trying to develop defensemen?

Is it fair to say the Isles probably see Hamonic, DeHaan, Reinhart, Pulock as the main top 4 for the future?

With Pokka, Mayfield, Czuczman, Pedan, Pelech, and Donovan battling for 5/6 positions. Do you see where I'm going w/this?
Isles are eventually going to replenish the D side again in 2/3yrs for Bport after possibly some of these kids might be on NHL squad.

maybe I'm scarred from Milbury but I want to see Donovan given some time before making that decision. Our top 4 is still wide open until we see the kids play

If it helps bring in some help on D, then trade Donovan...but I wouldn't just close the book on him after 55 games for a draft pick. Donovan was a quality prospect too. He played really well in the WJC paired with Fowler. He piled up points in the AHL and his defensive game was improved by the end of his last BPort season.

My point is, who's to say Pulock or Reinhart or any of those other guys will be better NHLers? Who's to say even how Donovan will do in the NHL? I'm sure he learned some lessons from his experience and hopefully he's working hard and making adjustments. I wouldn't just dump him for a pick before giving him a chance in camp to fight for a spot with everyone else.
