So I'll start the bidding at: anyone else going to the prospect scrimmage tonight? |

maybe I'm scarred from Milbury but I want to see Donovan given some time before making that decision. Our top 4 is still wide open until we see the kids play - Isles_since_6
Donovan had the highest Corsi-For% on the team |

It's the Islanders so I'm going to assume that they are charging for parking and if they're not I will be pleasantly surprised. |

They don't play defense, at all. That would include the team that made the playoffs in 2013, and the disaster we saw this past season. If they had played Boston in the first round in 2013, they'd have lost four, 3-1, games in a row. They were just lucky they played another team that doesn't play defense in that round, which made everyone mistakenly think they were better than they were.
It has little if anything to do with the talent, which especially up front is better than a lot of people think- if this team brought its lunch pails to work and played defense every night, and still finished under .500, I'd buy that, but there were at least 20-25 occasions last year (not counting another 10 games where the goaltending wasn't worth sh*t) where they directly caused their own problems by skating around in circles, being totally out of position, not covering each other, not taking bodies (not bothering to do anything) in front of the net, doing that half a$$ed shot block deal where they just end up screening the goaltender- not to mention having all five guys caught up past the dots in the offensive zone, at the same time. All five guys shouldn't BE that far up the ice at the same time, EVER, never mind being caught there. You can teach a dog not to do that, so needless to say, one would hope that has NOTHING to do with talent, unless you think we still have 20 players on the main roster who all totally suck.
That's simply coaching, or a distinct lack thereof, period. Talent is what makes one goaltender better than another- for another example, it's what made Mike Bossy better at scoring goals than pretty much everyone else. However, you can pretty much teach anyone with mediocre NHL level talent to play defense properly, as a well-oiled machine, if you work on it, and insist on it. These guys have a fantasy world game plan, and there's no discipline, and no accountability- this was clearly obvious when one watched them play last year. - dcb1
I watched every game last year as well. I'm not saying the coach doesn't have a part in this. You have to think he has some hockey knowledge. It's the lack of experience and confidence. if you look at those games and the breakdowns in their own end... they would panic and look like they were lost. A coach can grill you over and over and over but, if you have a goaltender that can't make the stops it affects the teams confidence. they panic because they know if they leave a shot go through it's most likely going in. The biggest problem was goal tending. We 30th in the league goals against. We were 16th in the league in shot against. If the team has confidence in your goalie...i guarantee you that team will play different in front you i don't care who the coach is. You watch next year how this team will plays with strong goaltending. It would be nice to get veteran talented defensemen as well to help stabilize the blue line. You talk about making the players accountable....how do you do that with no depth on the team. the team was full of AHL players last year. This year he will have the option to sit players such as Bailey.

I understand they charged for the draft party so I'm assuming it's the same for this. |
