How many of those do you think they actually sold during the 17 minutes he was a Bolt? - bluenatic411
Hey it would be a collectors item. |

So every team who could plausibly have interest in Del Zotto has interest? Way to cover your bases, Ek. |

I thought the thing with moving Dion was before the draft. Befor his new no trade contract kicked in. Before July 1st he had a no trade and could trade him to anyone. Now a friend of mine says he heard that the Leafs have a better chance of trading him now because he has a longer list that he would be willing to get traded too.
What am I missing here, Is he still tradeable now as good as he was before July 1st? - sparky
He has to give a list of 12 teams he cant be traded to kinda like Spezza so if we trade him to a team not on that list its easier to move him then before. |

I think Dion gets a pretty bad rap for his play. I think if he was better insulated, he wouldn't get half the criticism he does. And by better insulated, I don't mean that he needs top D-men around him, but he definitely needed someone to shoulder the load. Toronto's defense, besides Phaneuf last year consisted of Carl Gunnarrson, Cody Franson, Morgan Rielly, Jake Gardiner and JML/Tim Gleason. Besides Gleason, who can actually play hard minutes on this D? Dion was a sitting duck. Had to play against the top players, played on the top penalty kill and powerplay. That's not Dion's fault, that is all about the GM. You can't even blame Carlyle. When he looks down the bench and sees the only guy he can depend on in the defensive end is Phaneuf, then he has no choice, he has to throw him out there. With a bit more grit and sandpaper on the back end this year, I expect a better Phaneuf. Does that mean we are going to get him? No. But at least there will be no excuse this year.
Phaneuf is going nowhere. The deal would have been struck by now if he was. - BruHAWK
These are excuses. A 7 million dman should be excelling in these situations not folding like a cheap lawn chair. I think most agree he is overpaid, but serviceable. That doesnt excuse him for being a terrible captain. For the young players on this team to grow, they need to get rid of this personality. |

I wouldn't call what Ek does "reporting." Most, if not all of what he writes, is made up and fabricated by Ek. It's fun to discuss all the different scenarios, but anyone who thinks these "rumors" are legit and actually being given to Ek by some high up team exec's is kidding them self. Most people enjoy this site for the forums. I come here because I love Eklund and am a HUGE fan of his music as well. - hankthetank

We would have been one of the teams offering him a contract if we didn't already have him. With another team that actually had good defenseman Dion would look great.
Here he is the best guy on a poor team. He needs help. Hopfully this year with two experienced guys added he will get it. - sparky
ya RC need to decrease his ice time and nonis needs to get someone to help with those minutes |

Here's the thing. I agree we should move Staal; however, Thornton doesn't help us. He's not a player for the future, he's older than Staal, and it will likely piss Jordan off to trade his brother for an older similarly skilled player. It doesn't make sense. |

A source in Toronto tells me that the Leafs could move Dion to 1 team in the west and 1 team in the east, - Eklund
His travel schedule will be INSANE.
I don't see this happening.

A seven million dollar d-man today isn't what a 7 million dollar d-man was 4 years ago. This point came up during Free Agent Frenzy on TSN. We still look at elite d-men as being paid 7mil, 3rd line centers as being 3 million dollar guys, and fourth liners as being 1 million dollar guys. We look at a contract like Dave Bollands and say, "Wow, huge over payment, he is worth 3-4 million a season". Well, he was worth 3-4 million a season, when his last contract was up. What teams are willing to pay for guys is different now. 3rd liners are getting 4 million, 4th liners 2-3mil. Dion Phaneuf is locked in a 7mil for 7 years. In 3-4 years time, that is going to be a fantastic contract (as long as he doesn't completely blow it for the next couple of years) |

Yeah everyone is acting like he is untradeable, NOPE he got what he would have gotten if he went UFA, honestly he may have gotten more. I don't want to see him traded because he is not easily replaced. |

High priced long term contracts usually end up poorly for the team that offered it |

its a good thing the Oilers brass has done so much to improve the Oils fate, they don't need to be screwed by another GM, they do it all on their own... - geta02it
How many trades have we made where it would be completely lopsided hosing in the last 10 years? Nothing close to the Phaneuf trade... In the case of signings- well from an Oiler perspective - thats a whole different ballgame |

It's not a high priced contract. This is status quo. Brooks or pick just got a raise of 2 million bucks a year. It's not because he has improved that much since his last contract, if anything, he has gotten worse. But this is the going rate now. 7 million for a number one d-man is going to feel like chump change in a couple of years. |
