How can rumours be incorrect? Isnt that the definition of a rumour: A currently circulating story or report of uncertain or doubtful truth
- TonkaPhaneuf

Simple.

"The Oilers are thinking about trading Phil Kessel to the Lightening"

BOOM. Incorrect rumor.

I dont see Dion moving now with the pieces they brought in so far if the move him out it would be for a top 2 D which is not happening.

Burkie likely bring Phaneuf back to Calgary for Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers and defenceman Ian White.

Your assuming that these rumours have some kind of logical base to them, like coming from a real 'Source'. Don't you think that Dreger,Kipper, McKenzie etc etc have legitimite sources. If there was something real being talked about you would hear it from a reliable site.

Most come for hockey chat not really thinking these are real rumours. I can't think of anything that was reported here first.

- sparky

The guys you just mentioned aren't really rumor guys they mostly do facts, if they reported on everything they heard they be non stop. Ek talks about what people may be discussing and reports that for discussion. I don't understand how people don't get this concept.

I know but fact remains none of those would be of great help to the leafs even if they made the team... Burkie sure hosed Calgary back in the day

I thought the thing with moving Dion was before the draft. Befor his new no trade contract kicked in. Before July 1st he had a no trade and could trade him to anyone. Now a friend of mine says he heard that the Leafs have a better chance of trading him now because he has a longer list that he would be willing to get traded too.

What am I missing here, Is he still tradeable now as good as he was before July 1st?

Perhaps the contract itself is the problem, not the no trade list.

The contract may be too much for some teams but not all. Heck when you look at what some of the people signed for that are not as good as Dion, his contract isn't so bad and with time will get better with a higher cap.

If dion was a free agent this year he would have been the most sought after D man getting at least what he is getting paid now.

We would have been one of the teams offering him a contract if we didn't already have him. With another team that actually had good defenseman Dion would look great.

Here he is the best guy on a poor team. He needs help. Hopfully this year with two experienced guys added he will get it.

I agree with you to a point, I have defended Dion to a fault , saying the same things , he's the best we have , who will play the tough minutes etc
the realization I came to is HE is overpaid , and a terrible Captain
how can a captain hold players responsible for their mistakes , when Dion makes more than anyone ?
and above all he is a douche to boot

I honestly want the Sabres to take a shot on Del Zotto. He could end up being a solid offensive defenseman. I don't watch Preds games but he posted great numbers in juniors and had a solid 2011-12 campaign with the Rangers. It's worth a shot for the right price IMO
- SabresNHL

Someone is going to get a good defenseman without spending too much. He was underutilized at both NYR and NSH, both defense first teams.

I think Dion gets a pretty bad rap for his play. I think if he was better insulated, he wouldn't get half the criticism he does. And by better insulated, I don't mean that he needs top D-men around him, but he definitely needed someone to shoulder the load. Toronto's defense, besides Phaneuf last year consisted of Carl Gunnarrson, Cody Franson, Morgan Rielly, Jake Gardiner and JML/Tim Gleason. Besides Gleason, who can actually play hard minutes on this D? Dion was a sitting duck. Had to play against the top players, played on the top penalty kill and powerplay. That's not Dion's fault, that is all about the GM. You can't even blame Carlyle. When he looks down the bench and sees the only guy he can depend on in the defensive end is Phaneuf, then he has no choice, he has to throw him out there. With a bit more grit and sandpaper on the back end this year, I expect a better Phaneuf. Does that mean we are going to get him? No. But at least there will be no excuse this year.

Phaneuf is going nowhere. The deal would have been struck by now if he was.
