True, but that seems like a tailor-made deal where he was going one place and one place only.
- jmatchett383

That's true, and I doubt that deal would've been available to the Flyers. So in essence he could be removed from the possibilities open to the Flyers. Good point.

Really..... You better check that because they are over by 3 mil. News coming out of Columbus was he was going to be traded or the team would use a compliance buyout. The Flyers must be under the cap before the season starts and Pronger can not go on LTIR until after the first game....

No, I think you better check that. And there are other options open to the Flyers besides waiting until the first day of the season. And even if they do use that option, you are incorrect in stating that they have to wait until after the first game. That move can be made on the first day of the season, even if they don't play. The cap works on days of the season, not games. Trust me, the Flyers are not over the Cap.

No, he said the Flyers are in a holding pattern for the young defenseman. That's open to interpretation. So the Flyers are going to sit back and wait until those players arrive on the roster? I wouln't.
- MJL

That's right. They won't make any deals now that might hamstring them down the road. So for this summer and next. I wouldn't expect certainly any vinny typ deals. And prob not even any streit like deals.

Maybe Columbus insisted the Flyers take Umberger? I hear the other team sometimes has a say in a trade.

Also, I don't think Washington is better. They'll regret those deals within 2 years.

- jmatchett383

Then say no....I hear teams say that as well and look for another destination. Hartnell had 52 points last year and his cap hit is less than 5 mill. I would think more teams besides Columbus would have an interest. They may regret the deals but they are a better team next season

I think that's assuming a lot. If the right deal comes along that the Flyers feel makes them better, and they have to give up youth or assets to do it. I think they'll do it. I don't think the plan is to sit back and wait.

For instance. Does anyone think hextall is spending a minute of his time regarding the pk subban situation? I don't. If Holmgren was here, I'm sure he'd be keeping close tabs on that situation. His primary mission was to find a replacement for Pronger on this team right now. For hextall, I doubt it's on his task list this summer.

Holding pattern.

And where did you get that inofrmation from? Capgeek?

I'm going to teach you something about Capgeek. All they do is take an educated guess on what the roster might be for the season, and come up with a number. It is not a factual list of the Cap. It is an approximation. And they do not keep the off season cap. And the Flyers list includes Chris Pronger. And you obviously aren't aware of how LTIR works, and the options open to the Flyers.

If only they had money, they could have shored up the D by signing Orpik for 5 years at $5.25M per, or shored up their bottom 6 forwards by snagging Bolland at his cheap $5M per for 5 years. If only they could have been players on July 1st...if only.

The Flyers are a cap team....they will always spend to the cap # when possible to make their team better....It would have been nice to have more $ on July 1rst, but they didn't. One could say maybe that was a good thing....the last thing the Flyers need is another guy who although might help now hurts their plans a couple of years down the road.....too much doom and gloom around here....the flyers have some really good young talent on their squad and I fully anticipate some of these kids will continue to get better this year and next....I read an article on Philly.com about how the Flyers are falling behind??? I guess if Baby Schenn, Couturier, Read, Simmonds, Raffl and even Vorecek show no grow then sure they might be in trouble....I don't see that happening....I still think there are team needs, but patience needs to be the order of the day. Hextall deserves some time to mold this team and make some changes as he see's fit.
