Rielly Smith is a guy that would be great to offer-sheet.
- RogerRoeper

3.3 ...boston can match, or take a 2nd. If they match, offer Krug the same.
They would be screwed! -5mil cap space, they could LTIR savard, but that still puts em under with only 11 forwards signed.

No illusions. Leafs aren't winning the cup this year but I really like the last 3 signings.

Bodie was the one guy from the bottom six I hoped they would bring back and this Kontiola guy paid out $620k to come and play here..he is making $480k. $70k less than the league minimum. He could have just stayed where he was and made way more. How many players would do that?

Seems motivated to prove himself and the game seems to be about a lot more then just $$ for him. Plus I really like what that " I don't know " interview says about him. .... He was pi$$ed off they were losing so much he gives an interview like that. Just the kind of intensity this team needs. No shifts off.

- D.Lemieux

They aren't huge signings, but I think the last 3 have addressed the needs of the team.

Kontiola is not coming to the NHL for the cash. He really wants his shot. And it looks like a steal for the Leafs.

Smith and Krug cannot be signed to an offer sheet... they haven't been in the league long enough.

Read an article in the Sun yesterday how teams need to start screwing rivals that way.

Yup.
But they have depth and up until now have had good cap management...they figured something out and still be a top 3 team in the east.

The Sun?
What was their suggestion, to offer sheet PK and force Montreal to sign a ridiculous contract?
Leaf need to quit screwing with their own team....forget about worrying about others just yet.

It is so stupid that it's a legitamite rule, yet no one uses it.

Bobby Clarke gave an offer sheet to Kesler years ago and the entire NHL poop on him for it. Why? He did nothing wrong. This unwritten rule not to use the written rule is stupid.

Dont take this the wrong way but...on what grounds can anyone make such a claim? He's a very big question mark, imo.

he's right Colin, he signed for 1.1 million, and had to pay 620K to get out of his KHL contract.

doubt the man uprooted his entire life for less than 500K

he's looking to prove he belongs in the NHL

The fact he had to pay almost as much as he's going to make just to get out of his contract for his old team.

No they can't.
Any picks they give up will be high ones for each round.
They would be foolish to offer sheet anyone.

At least they better not

Right, I won't disagree with his desire to play in the NHL...but it's the notion that he's a steal or what have you. The guy might not even crack the lineup full time for all we know. That's all I'm saying...he wasnt a hot shot in the K...not sure what type of success he'll have in the N.

Missing a second, plus they simply cannot afford to.
If they really really wanted to, they possibly could. But they better not, they'll most likely be picking in the top 12 next year.

So they better not.

They can't

They can't be that dumb
