FORWARDS
R.J. Umberger ($4.600m) / Claude Giroux ($8.275m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Michael Raffl ($1.100m) / Sean Couturier ($1.750m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Zac Rinaldo ($0.750m) / Brayden Schenn ($2.500m) / Matt Read ($3.625m)
Jay Rosehill ($0.675m) / Jason Akeson ($0.575m) / Travis Moen ($1.850m)

DEFENSEMEN
Mark Streit ($5.250m) / Andrew MacDonald ($5.000m)
Chris Pronger ($4.941m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Luke Schenn ($3.600m) / Grant Clitsome ($2.067m)
Kimmo Timonen ($2.000m) / Nick Schultz ($1.250m)

GOALTENDERS
Steve Mason ($4.100m)
Ray Emery ($1.000m)

RETAINED SALARIES (1.30% of upper limit)
Vincent Lecavalier ($0.900m—20.00%)

SALARY CAP: $69,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $68,878,095; BONUSES: $1,500,000
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $121,905

Two deals that get us under the cap...

1. Lecavalier (20% salary retained) and a 3rd round pick for Travis Moen and a 4th round pick

Montreal gets a player they at one point would have traded their entire team for. Flyers can only eat 900k, but I think MTL would be enticed by Vinnys size if nothing else. Flyers take back Moen, who has 2 years left at almost 2 mill, as well as swapping picks that moves MTL up an entire round.

Basically any team that will take Vinny at 20% retention while also giving back a player with no more than 2 years and no more than 2 mill in a yearly cap hit is ideal for the Flyers. I just think this particular scenario could be swung.

A similar deal could be Vinny to EDM for Matt Hendricks, who has the same cap hit as Moen but is on a 3 yer deal, or Jesse Joensuu, who has 1 year left at 950k.

2. Nicklas Grossman for Grant Clitsome

Straight up. WPG has stated they'd like to move him. Him and Schultz duke it out for playing time in the 6th spot.

After Pronger goes on LTIR, squad may look like this....

Read-Giroux-Simmonds
Schenn-Couturier-Voracek
Umberger-Raffl-Akeson
Moen-Laughton-Bellemare

Would move Schenn back to Center if Raffl falters. I like Schenn at wing and I thought Raffl looked good when we played him at center.

Just shooting poop with some scenarios that get us under the cap. Thoughts?

Hey Bill, why tarde for anything.

Flyers call Kevin Hayes' agent - if they like you, he signs with you.

Don't make it more complicated than that, because of the kid wants to sign elsewhere you need him to want Philly, and wasting a pick on acquiring rights is pointless...

Personally I would put Subban ahead of Suter though probably not by much.

That being said, ill trade Rinaldo , a pick and PLindberg31 (but not 2real) for any of those guys!

Which article gets written first?

1.) "US is catching up to Canada, talent-wise."
2.) "It's not just Canada's game anymore. "

Although Subban has a more dynamic shot and skating ability, I think Suter is much better defensively and is no slouch in the other departments. I would take Suter over Subban without a seconds hesitation. I also think he deserved the Norris over PK during the short season.

If you want a power forward that I've watched then keep an eye on Lawson Crouse.

So many good players in the top 10 and the Flyers likely won't get a sniff...

Dylan Strome did well last year but with McDavid will be overshadowed, expect him now with some players leaving to take an even bigger strep.

You couldn't go wrong with either and both are legit number 1 dmen in the current era of the NHL.

I think Subban would work for me more on the Flyers right now because he is 25 while Suter is 29.

Wait, with no cap room and horrible trades I thought we were a shoe-in for the top 5? Sarcasm.

Great question the other day about a Giroux for MacKinnon swap. I'd say yes. Hard one emotionally but hands down yes for this team.

The one thing we do know is they won't be picking in the middle of the first round. AKA no mans land.
