What?
I haven't even said anything, other than his contract doesn't expire for another 4 years. - systemtool
Cuz at the time he signed the contract, the highest point total he ever had was 35... I bet he'll never reach 60 again. Lol |

Do you think that jvr does not back check or crash the net? I like RoR but if he was on Toronto and Colorado had jvr, RoR would struggle to get 20. - joshs
JVR played with Giorx, Carter and Richards!!! During that time he barley scored 35 points! Buffalo and Toronto fan go to bed! |

Playing on the 3rd line with minimal ice time and limited specialty teams in Philly. Hard to score 60 points like that. Rarely played with any of the guys you mentioned.
Meanwhile, you have O'Rielly playing with Duchene and Landeskog and put up nearly the same totals as JVR, playing on a clearly inferior team to the Avalanche. |

You're not mentioning how fantastic JVR was in helping lead Philly to a cup final. |

Really? Because he's seen as not in the same league as ROR. What are you reading? |

Yeah, playing with Kessel helps. So, now you have the argument would JVR playing with Duchene/Landeskog score more than ROR with Bozak/Kessel
And then you have to account the massive difference in team quality.
Let's face it, the entire argument is pointless and you are all going to be on here all night and get nowhere. Typical Eklund blog comment section. |

No, you were trying to say at 2 years younger he has the same amount of points. JVR has more points in same amount of games. |

And 21 less games...
Again, you were attempting to say ROR was two years younger, therefor he's had a better career. |

In twenty less games, he's scored one more point. Kind of a wash, but pretty much ROR's role in Colorado has been Top 6 consistently now for a couple years. JVR really didn't have a defined role until Toronto.
JVR is probably better offensively, ROR is probably better in less obvious aspects. But they aren't really similar players at all. Different approach to the game, so it's moot.
That said, a line involving JVR and ROR probably would be solid two way responsible offensive line. |

You've had him a month, I've watched his entire NHL career. You'll see, give it til November. He's a soft defender who doesn't see the ice well at all. I know someone else would have given him that money as a UFA but if he's still with the flyers after half that contract length I'll be shocked. - Isles_since_6
I am not saying he is a top pairing guy but he is a top 4 guy and they make 5 mill now a days. The cap system caused inflation. As the cap goes up players demand more money. 20 goal scores are going for around 5 mill now as well. Before the cap you could get a guy like them for 2-3 mill. Flyers have 6 guys consider top 4 minimum and they have to do that because they lack a #1 Dman. You don't have a pairing that can eat 30 mins a game so you have to spread the time evenly. 3rd pairing guys tend to be exposed when they play around 20 mins. Each Flyers Dman average around 20 min per game. MacDonald is a good Dman. He decent size, mobile, can move the puck well, blocks shots and can add some offense.
No one expects him to carry the team on his back but he will be a key contributor. The way I see it Striet take top pair with Coburn, Amac and Schenn hold 2nd while Kimmo and Grossman garrison the 3rd pair. |
