i think hextall is gonna be a hell of a gm who will bring some stability to the vision and direction to the team which holmgren couldn't quite attain
that said, i agree with you that nonis doesn't need to make crazy ass trades just for the sake of trading, my perception of him is that he's really doesn't have a strong idea of vision for where this team is at and where it's going which makes it difficult to trade
to move guys like dion, lupul and clarkson, who have bad contracts, you have to have a clear vision for what you want in return and as to how it will help your team continue to move in the direction you're building it towards - Flyfreaky
Again, too Bullot, Nonis proved last 2 years he`s incapable! As to Flys retort, gotta agree, and for the Leafs i`d be glad to have a GM with no paradigmes and who was not a puppet of anyones who brought something fresh to the table |

Absolutely.........these two teams are opposite ends of the spectrum with respect to taking risks. Although I do love the exciting shoot from the hip style of Philly in the end I don't think it will ever get them to elite status. I think Nonis is a good GM and when the time is right, when the Leafs are a contender, I have to believe he will make a big move and go for it..........and you need to have the cupboards stocked to do it. - Bullot
How many more decades should we wait to become contenders? When Burke arrived, he should have tore it down then and we'd have been better off. The Kessel trade is what's killed this franchise, because giving up two high first rounders for a 37 goal scorer, isn't doing the job. He's one dimensional and doesn't do his due diligence in his own end.
Looking at the moves that have been made this year, it appears the plan is to tank and go for a generational talent. Good! It's long overdue. It appears to be a well thought out plan. Stay weak down the middle and don't improve the defense. Keep Carlyle for the first 40 games and when they're dead last, can him. Then sell off assets for more draft picks and young players at the trade deadline. None of the players acquired can be deemed anything more then 3rd line material. Shanahan could have moved up this year, in the draft, but figured next year's crop was much better. It all points to a tank year, just by looking at what we let go and what we picked up. Relax and watch the horror show......we'll be better off, one year from today!

Yes, it's a crystal ball into the future. It's the only salvation for this franchise. We have no decent centre prospects and haven't done anything to change the culture in the dressing room. Getting rid of Kulimen, Bolland and Raymond, aren't the problem, it's Phaneuf, Kessel, Kadri and Lupul. So called leaders that don't lead.

Nonis is only here to give Shanny a look at what he's gonna need to do as a GM.
He's learning. |

they need to trade him now while he's got some value, he has a horrible contract and his body has been breaking down the past few years and that's only gonna get worse |

That's not the only way. Your Crystal ball is full of crystal meth.
I can think of a couple others.
Leafs DO make a trade, which has huge impact, which leads to other trades and a vision forming.
One of the high end local talents decides he's coming to toronto. Calls his other buddies to come as well. Ie. Minnesota. |
