yes, this is a main problem i have with nonis and it bleeds into a bigger problem, namely, what direction are the leafs moving (rebuild, partial rebuild, just stay competitive, tweak playoff team, etc...)
if you want to improve you have to know when to trade players, when to sign players, and when to dump players - Flyfreaky
Nonis and et al always give in to the pressure here, maybe Shanny too... we all se it, Nonis is useless! No balls, just trying to appease the numbers, just like a polititian! |

I believe we are rebuilding via the draft and staying in competitive at the same time. |

it would be great to hear the direction from the management so we can better understand the deals they are making
personally, i'd like to see them move some of the bad contracts (lupul, clarkson, dion) for picks or prospects and continue the rebuild that way |

every year when they have had a chance to cash in they didn`t..... maybe some wild dream that they`ll win the cup! Last couple years with Nonis they could have halled in a Kings ransom for Kuli, Grabo etc..... friggin idiots! |

The least they could do now is get Ott and i`d be happy watching them lose and kill people |

the leafs are my second favorite team and i love the hb leafs fans/blog, but as a flyers fan i've seen what some crazy ass trading can do (not condoning the bad contract terms homer handed out at times) and wish nonis would take a chance every once in a while and make some deals that bring in new blood, picks or prospects
it seems like he's overly cautious and loses out |

@MolinariPG: Brandon Sutter, the Penguins' most prominent restricted free agent, will not be filing for salary arbitration, per agent Craig Oster. |

Every I watch and think.... sell, sell, draf t picks, prospects, whatever! And nothing, like they actually think they`re going somewhere? Year after year, same thing! They have no clue wht the fans want... have some balls and crash and burn for next year!

I think our pick is a beauty and he's the most skilled out of the draft.
I'm excited to see where he gets to I just don't know enough yet to slot him in. |

this is the problem, i'd have no problem watching the leafs have a fire sale if i knew they were going to work hard at developing a (frank)ing system that works hard to develop young players and turn this team into a winning organization built to compete for the cup on a year basis, not a Hodge-podge patchwork team that we all cross our fingers and hope and pray that somehow they will make the playoffs from year to year |

Franson did this last year. The agent is telling the player you may get locked into a deal that is much lower than you expect if you file for arbitration. |

Ya leafs are stupid.
I traded for 7 first round draft picks (the current one) AND won the (frank)ing cup in NHL 14.
If I can do that. Leafs can do something. |

unfortunately, it's obvious they're doing the latter, making small changes to the line-up every off-season and then crossing fingers and legs while holding their breath hoping and praying that the squad will somehow squeak into the playoffs each year |

And yet thats what they do! Seems the goal is to make the playoffs, half heartedy at that at the best! Other teams need to go for the cup to make a fraction of what the Leafs bring in without post season play... there lies the problem. Is the culture change on the ice going to change anything? NO |

I think that arena in Markham needs a team. That's (frank)ing culture change. I'd be in on that its 13 Km from my house.
That'd force leafs to make a better product. Local competition. This monopoly poop aint workin in toronto. |

Absolutely.........these two teams are opposite ends of the spectrum with respect to taking risks. Although I do love the exciting shoot from the hip style of Philly in the end I don't think it will ever get them to elite status. I think Nonis is a good GM and when the time is right, when the Leafs are a contender, I have to believe he will make a big move and go for it..........and you need to have the cupboards stocked to do it. |

Not just that, your only as good as your people, bottom line though, if you`re not strong enough to win the cup (and you know it) take the assets and run! Nonis has no friggin brains to do it, fire his ass now, its been long enough. |

i think hextall is gonna be a hell of a gm who will bring some stability to the vision and direction to the team which holmgren couldn't quite attain
that said, i agree with you that nonis doesn't need to make crazy ass trades just for the sake of trading, my perception of him is that he's really doesn't have a strong idea of vision for where this team is at and where it's going which makes it difficult to trade
to move guys like dion, lupul and clarkson, who have bad contracts, you have to have a clear vision for what you want in return and as to how it will help your team continue to move in the direction you're building it towards |
