I just wanna ask why you were against signing a guy like Stralman because it block prospects the Rangers have? Fine, I understand that. But you are also really fond of the idea of the Rangers trading for a legit first line center. That scenario would like cost depth, kids and and draft picks. What I'm really getting at is why you are against it when resigning a guy that has given good years to Rangers vs not being against it when it comes to aging or decline players from other teams? - tomburton99
I was all for Prust staying at the time..so I don't want all current rangers to leave when the time is up. I had a debate in my head for awhile about keep Stralman, pros and cons. I think they made a great decision |

Ok fine. Sorry if I think depth is better than no depth. This year's Blackhawk team is a perfect example of that. I actually hope the Rangers sell the farm for the likes of Staal or Thornton now. - tomburton99

I asked if I could ask you something, politely I might add. Then you call me a homer, in a round about way. But that's fine. Now I hope the Sather complete's the gutting of a team that was good to construct a team that is a question mark. But it would be an ageing question mark. |

I answered politely. You took what I said and took it personal. My opinion is many people, not just you, think we have the best players in the leauge when there here. And when that player is replaced, it's like how dare we replace that great player. Again I have nothing against Stralman, just didnt make that much sense to me to give him that much money long term
In your head its a question mark...doesn't mean it will end up being that. Give the whole team a chance before you judge it is all I will say. We knew going into this summer it was gonna be different team..all the more confusing why peeps are freaking out about the turnover...we know it was coming. |

Well we knew it was likely, but how many years are we going to have to do this? I know every player cannot be kept every offseason like in the old days, but some continuity would be nice. I hate that so much money is locked into a few players (yes, I know most teams experience this), just makes it hard to build a real continuous contending team. |

If you think it about it though, Nash is probably the only overpaid player on this team. Hank is a top 3 goalie in this league, so I don't mind his cap hit. Nobody else's contract is really an albatross. Things are changing. Although I should wait to see what some of the RFAs get lol |

I hear you. And that Nash hit makes him unmovable. We really need him to score this year & score big goals. |

I actually think that the Rangers will get a better than expected deal on all their RFAs.
And, I'm going to say something that may be controversial, but I think that putting contracts aside, the guy that the Rangers will miss most next year is the guy they bought out. I think they have been weakened at a very important position and in the room by his departure, acknowledging of course they it was absolutely 100 percent necessary to buy him out. I just think they are going to miss him. |

Yep I agree, Richards was very valuable to this team. I think 99% of us would love him back at under 3 million per year. |

Nash will score in the season. What sucks for him is no one will care and he won't hear the end of it til he proves himself in the postseason |

I think the fault I've had this offseason is wanting the Rangers to find some replacement on the cheap, but in my head I know that it is probably better that the Rangers don't chase the inside straight at the center ice position right now. If they need to go with what they have, so be it. At least we will figure out what we have with some of these kids and if it doesn't work out, them they always could look for a trade.
Would still like to see another forward signed, so we are inserting only two kids upfront, rather than three, but I think the Rangers will be patient. |

Yea at this point I think they may wait to see how much cap space the RFAs take up before adding that last piece. And I still think that last forward will be via trade. |

It could be via trade, but there are guys out there that I wouldn't mind having on the third line on one year prove it deals. And you don't have to give up anything for those guys.
But, I still like the idea of John Moore for Darren Helm or even Drew Stafford if the Sabres would retain salary. Moore, however, could be a real bargain salary if Brooks' suggested numbers for him turn out to be right. |

Every team in the league goes through turnover.
The simple fact is that all the players that left just played the best hockey they will likely play in their careers. Do we want to be paying for that little stretch of good hockey? You're supposed to pay for how a player will perform in the future, not for the past.
Anton Stralman had the best season - and the best stretch (playoffs) - of his life. Benoit Pouliot had the best season of his life. Brian Boyle had a pretty consistent regular season by his standards but played the best and most important minutes of his life in the playoffs. These guys are getting overpaid for YEARS for these few good moments from last year. It's what happens when the stars align and a team makes it to the SCF.
Does Anton Stralman deserve $4.5M over the next 5 years? If he plays at the level of his playoff performance every single game, then yea. But what about the Stralman that was god awful for 25% of the season? The Stralman that every single poster here wanted benched, traded, and demoted? Brian Boyle for $2M a year? Pouliot for $4M a year? Cmon... |

I think the Boyle deal is legit. He's great on faceoffs/pk and even though he doesn't use it enough is a big body. I like the stralman deal for about 500 k less and 1 year less. Benny's deal I just laugh at.
