Well, at least Paul Stewart is on board with the Rangers signing of Dan Boyle. Stewart is always a fun read for those of you who haven't checked him out. Interesting and fun stories from hockey year's past.

Richards i guess
- BobbySchmautz

Was joking but the Rangers have had almost 1/4 of the 2004 Lightning. Prospal, Fedetanko, Richards, Torts. Now they have Boyle and MSL. It's really odd.

You know the good thing about our guys filing for arbitration is that there will be certainty about their situation in early August at latest, and we don't have to worry about offer sheets. I wonder if the Rangers will wait until then to see how much money the have left, and whether they are capable of doing anything else.

I still have a feeling, however, that Heatley will be a Ranger.

yeah, no chance of any holdouts and guaranteed the three of them will be at training camp which is the best thing

personally I think Heatley's done, I thought he looked so useless in the Wild playoff series vs Blackhawks.

To me he isn't even someone who deserves to be signed, he is training camp invite material at this point

I haven't seen much of Heatley, and you may very well be right that he is washed up. Just have a gut feel that he may be the direction the Rangers go. His numbers were terrible last year, and for a guy like him, the offensive numbers are really all that matters, because he certaintly isn't an intangible guy.

I think if they add another player it's going to be someone who is hungry and skates well and has something to prove

That's what Pouliot was last year and why he worked out.

I'd really be surprised if they added Heatley

No way MSL is relegated to to the 3rd line
- BobbySchmautz

I'm not looking at it as a 3rd line. It's the most balanced lineup that way. Putting MSL on miller's wing gives him an opportunity to succeed. If you stack the first 2 lines and have Hags Miller X(prove yourself type player) things can go south quickly.

If he is not hungry with something to prove, then there is something wrong with him, because he will be playing for his NHL career next year (and future contracts). But, I really don't know the guys makeup, so who knows.

Also, I know that the numbers can be deceiving, but I noticed you said he sucked in the playoffs this year, but he actually had decent numbers 6 points in 11 games, and a +6. But, again, I think I only caught a couple of Wild games and didn't really notice him, so I don't really have a firsthand opinion.

Heatley has been pretty terrible the past couple years but the Wild also gave up on him and played him on the 4th line for the majority of his time on that team. It's obviously his own fault that he put himself in a position to be treated so poorly but a fresh start and some confidence could do Heater some good.

1 year for $1.5M and I'd be okay with it. If he gets rejuvenated, he could score 30+ goals.

I think his days of scoring 30 goals are over. I think that the best you can reasonably expect from him is something like 20 goals, 20-25 assists, 40-45 points as a third line player.

For me, he reminds me a lot of Gaborik. Most people thought Gaborik was done and will likely never reach 30 goals again but now with a little bit of confidence, playing with good linemates, and being healthy, Gaborik could score 40 next season.

Heatley is a 15-20 type guy to me now +/- a few. I would like him for cheap on the 3rd line, big body, has good hands and let's see what he can do. Even put him with Brass/Zucc or with Step/Nash.

I think that's the most reasonable expectation as well as the most probable result. Just saying that he has the potential to maybe score 30 goals. Low risk high reward acquisition.

1.5 mil? I'd sign him for 2 years at 1.5. Not sure he takes that tho.

Heatley is a mixed bag. The guy's shooting pct was just as good as Rick Nash last year but his shot totals dropped off a ton with reduced ice time. If he is motivated, and can work well with his linemates he could certainly be an asset. I could see him being Pouliot 2.0. The question with Heatley is mental not physical. Can he get his mind right especially in NY?

Although its been up for a couple of days, I just noticed the Hawks blog, which suggests that the Hawks and the Rangers have been talking. Assuming that were true, it's hard to come up with a deal that makes sense for both clubs. I am assuming that the Hawks want to move Sharp (who can play center), given the fact that they can't maintain his salary with Kane and Toews coming due next summer (and for potential other reasons), but who could possibly go back that the Hawks would want and would make the money work?

Depending on the contract I don't think you can lose on signing him. If we give him 2 mil and he doesn't put up 20 we took a chance. If he does score 20 we got a bargain.

Given the fact that the Rangers need help at center, and have three natural right wingers in the Top 9, one of which will need to play out of position next year for all of them to play in the Top 6, I would think there would be a more likely candidate to go the otherway in a Sharp deal. Although, I just don't see any real deal that makes too much sense between the clubs, because the Hawks will be looking for cap relief, and the Rangers aren't really the team to provide it.

the Rangers trade Brassard, then we really are doing a complete 180 from the team that got to the finals and just starting fresh. Yet again.
