The size of a Kreider - Thornton - Nash line would be unreal - rangerdanger94
If they could add Mueller and Thornton along with Nash and Kreider all the sudden we have a formidable forward group while still having a fairly large amount of speed with it. Not a bad recipe at all |

Personally, I don't really want to trade for Thornton. The guy IS getting up there in age and it will obviously catch up to him eventually. He's still uber talented but the Rangers have like a 80% fail rate when it comes to bringing in big names in their 30s.
With that said, I look at the teams in the West making power moves getting big name centers like Dallas now having a 1-2 punch of Seguin and Spezza or Anaheim now having a 1-2 punch of Getzlaf and Spezza and I realize that we do need to acquire someone on the level of a Thornton to compliment Stepan as our 1-2 punch to have a legitimate chance of competing. Even if we end up making it back to the SCF next season, will our fate be much better facing any team from the West that could make it with their center depth? The Kings, Sharks, Ducks, Avs, Blues, Stars, etc. all blow away our top-6 centers.
It seems like Brassard is gonna get locked up long term for close to $5M a year. Would we rather have Thornton for only $1-2M more? Obviously Brassard is younger but he's also not as talented and even at his best doesn't produce like Thornton does at his worst. Could Brassard turn into a Dubinsky for us where he just falls flat on his face after getting a big extension?
Nash and Thornton's chemistry is a real appealing aspect of the proposition as well. - rangerdanger94
Ideally Thornton Stepan brassard Moore would be a fantasy for me lol. I just don't see anyway to get Thornton without giving up brassard. And id rather he go then Hagelin Kreider or Zucc. Unless they take staal and miller instead |

i don't think that we are going to acquire another center, probably just another winger and that's it. I don't think that is all that bad, good they give miller a chance now hope he impacts like kreider or even better, he has all the tools |

I can agree with that. I see the Rangers extending a training camp invite to a guy like David Booth. He's got good speed but his injury issues haven't allowed him to fulfill his potential. But, given a chance to make our team maybe he surprises us ala Pouliot. |

Another strategy is see how miller and/or Lindberg progress at center here and reassess at the deadline |

Oi with the Joe Thornton talk, what is this 1999? I'm sorry but put me in the camp of thinking 1. He's an old man & 2. Has always been overrated anyway. Whoever said the name Espo nailed it when mentioning what kind of a move that "would" be. |

Exactly, having some cap space during the season is a good thing |

I think that's more than likely what they are going to do. Again, aside from perhaps bringing in a David Booth or Peter Mueller on a tryout or signing a guy like Devin Setoguchi to a low risk, one-year deal, I think the Rangers are about done. And I'm okay with it. It means the kids will have to step up and fill roles this year or the team will be busy at the deadline looking for rental pieces like Thomas Fleischmann, etc. |

Imagine how good it would be if Miller and Lindberg pan out as regular NHLers this upcoming season. Would keep low cap hit players on the roster playing important roles as well as add trade value to the depth of the roster. Really would give this franchise a bunch of options moving forward. |

I would take that, can fight, chip in some offense & play with an edge, veteran too. |

This is the most probable scenario. I feel like a lot of people aren't too confident in Miller but I think he's gonna be a great 3rd line center. 15 goals and 30 assists good.

Miller can easily put those numbers up especially with MSL on one of his wings.
Nash Step Hags
CK Brass Zucc
MSL Miller X
All 3 of those lines have to be accounted for by the other team. |

If I had to guess on who they sign at forward, I think it is going to be Heatley on the cheap. Sather apparently wanted him a great deal a few years ago when he was still a high end player, and I can see Slats signing him now for peanuts to fill out the third line. Thus us just a prediction (although not a strong one), not an endorsement. |

Lightning retreads, excluding MSL, didn't work. Let's try Shark retreads now instead. |

I have a hypothetical question....
....suppose it was Pavel Datsyuk instead of Joe Thornton we were rumored to acquire...what would be the sentiment here? - Slimtj100
Still no for me . . . He's going to be 36 in 2 weeks. We went out and traded youth (2 first round picks) for a 38 year old. Now we're guna trade a 26 and 22 year old for a 36 year old? Why? Plus signed a 38 year old instead of a 27 year old. Suddenly well go from being a young team to an old one. Let's trade Miller and macilrath for a 35 year old also. I mean. . . . We're guaranteed to win the cup signing and trading for all these stars past their prime so forget the future. |

I can't see Booth going to NY. Don't think AV would want any part of him. |

Agreed. Datsyuk is one of the best players in the world still but for how much longer? In a year or 2 when Dan Boyle, MSL, and him or Thornton retire, all of a sudden we're thin and have zero depth because we traded away 2 first round picks, Cally, Brassard, Miller, Skjei, Lindberg, etc. |

I love Pavel, but he's had injury issues and your other points are valid, as well. |
