Wow Kane and Towes both have 10.5 million cap hits for the next 8 years
- TPC

They are obviously going to have to trim that roster a little, and it seems like guys like Bickell, Sharp, Oduya, Leddy, Rozival, etc. are the prime candidates to go elsewhere.

Lot of fishnagles. With Keith, Hossa and Crawfords contracts they're going to have some issues if the cap doesn't go up significantly. Unless they have a deep farm.

Staal for Sharp and Leddy with Chicago eating some money on Sharp

They have very good players on heavy contracts that they will likely have to move, but in doing so, they will get some real good young prospects back. A guy like Sharp will bring a pretty significant return, and so would Seabrook if he is a casualty of this.

It creates problems, but I can't say that I blame them locking in those two guys forever, and maybe in 3-4 years, that cap hit doesn't look so bad.

The Hawks, unfortunately, can't afford to keep any money in a trade. They will need every penny they can get.

The Chicago blogger last week had the Rangers and Hawks talking. As I said last week, its hard to see a deal that makes sense for both of those teams. The only one that I can think of is something like Sharp for Zucarello (which maybe the Hawks would be interested in because they could shave a couple of million of the cap because Zucc would come cheaper). Otherwise, I can't really think of anything else.

I'M NOT ADVOCATING THAT DEAL, JUST SO ITS CLEAR.

Yeah, I was wondering if Sharp is the odd man out.
I would have signed the same deal for those players. I look at Toews & Kane like Hank. Cant let players of that caliber walk because you don't want to put out some money. They are franchise players.

Could the internal plan be to put Moore at number 3 center? If you think about it he's like a rabid dog out there so he could be capable of getting pucks and put St Louis and miller with him...

Hags-Stepan-Nash
Kreider-Brassard-Zucc
Miller-Moore-St Louis
Glass-Carter-Fast

This isn't awful..and look I didn't trade for staal either

- Slimtj100

I'd be cool with that, with Lindberg getting a chance for the third line spot as well.

Basically, I was trying to think of what the Hawks and Rangers could be talking about, if they are indeed talking, which is a big question mark as well. I could see the Rangers being interested in Sharp, because he can play center as well, but I don't see them trading a center for him. They are pretty stacked on D, so I think they would be looking for a lower cost option on the wing, who could at least approximate Sharp's production. Just trying to think about what would peek the Hawks interest, and that's really the best that I can come up.

No. Who would play center for the Rangers? Brassard, Moore, Miller, and Lindberg? That would be the worst lineup of centers in the league, and the fact that Kane makes a couple of million more than Stepan would give you further cap issues.

That seems like alot of grief to go through for a malcontent, prima donna whose reputation outweighs his actual production. Stepan is more productive than him (although has played with better players), and is a much better all around player.

I honestly don't even think I would do Hagelin for Kane straight up. While Kane is a better goal scorer for sure, I love everything else Hagelin brings. Especially without Boyle, he is our top PK guy going forward.

Times have changed my friend. I remember when Bobby Bonilla in 1992 was given a 5 yr 25 million dollar contract w the Mets, it was the highest in baseball at that time & people were saying it was the end of the world as they knew it.

Amazing what homers people will become once they get a player. I cant believe they actually think Stralman is better than Girardi on the Lighting blog. Either they have never watched a Rangers game, or they are just willfully ignorant.
I liked Stralman and wish we re-signed him, but man you would think they just got Leetch in his prime.

That Stuart blog is advanced stats run wild. Here are some numbers! Clearly, Stralman carried Staal! God oh mighty! I might have to join the crusade against advanced stats.

I really don't mind advanced stats, but when people take to the level of "Player X has better advanced stats than Player Y, so clearly Player X is better" it just drives me nuts. It's one piece of information. It is not the exclusive method by which players should be judged.
