he lead leafs d-men in scoring
that will be enough for him to get at least half of captain caveman's contract - Dozzer
I made a mistake, didn't proof read it, I meant to say he will get just under 3.5 and the Leafs will be stuck with him that is why it is best to trade him out of here. |

honestly, if the leafs can't move him by arbitration, they should make him look as good as possible, so he gets enough for them to walk away. |

I did not realize how strapped we are for cap space, much to my dismay, looks like Franson is the odd man out, who can we trade him for ?
I seen some Reimer + Franson for Bogosian ideas, but that probably would not work out cap wise and I don't know if Winnipeg would be interested or not.
I think Bieksa would be a very good addition, but I don't think that's a real plausible cap move either.
Any ideas? |

Walk-Away Rights
If a player elects arbitration, the club may actually choose to walk away from the award and make the player an unrestricted free agent under certain circumstances. For one, the arbitration award has to be $3.5M per year or more. - LeafMan
That number is scaled though with the increase in cap. I dont know exactly what the number will be with the cap increase but it will be in the 3.75 range. |

FWIW - here is Mirtle's line up. He has Franson at $2.45, Gardiner at $2.8 and Reimer at $2.25. That leave $4 or so left. |

1.6 salary last year .....1.8 was just his cap hit. Q.O.'s have to match salary. |

It just shows how little he was hitting the weight room. The kids have to, if they want to be able to compete without getting hurt at this level. Look at RNH shoulder issues. - bixll
RNH's shoulder was not injured in the NHL. He had a pre-existing shoulder injury from Junior. Its fixed and he is bulking up like crazy. He's already at 195 and will come into camp around 200lbs. |

It also does not look like we have any contract relief in the next few years, are only hope is for the cap to go up or for us to move a big contract. I understand the Lupul trade talk now, we could probably get a half decent return and it could help our cap situation. |

Love or hate franson, it's hard to say 'he makes mistakes etc.' when his agent can say:
Led team in D scoring 2 years running; had great playoffs; top 5 in D hits; 6'5 and in his prime; use comparables of D men getting disgusting deals.
point is on paper franson looks great and these arbitrators aren't always hockey minds |
