I'd ignore Mike's math ...the qualifying offers don't really mean anything.

My guess is they have about 3 million left over with a 23 man roster signed.

- The Law

That's about where I was thinking as well. Which does give some room to make a deal, via trade.

I hear ya...maybe Franson could get a partner who can play D and doesn't pass it into his skates 90% of the time.
- Garnie

Franson needs to learn how to skate first, the guy would lose

isn't it $5m minus the raises the RFA's are gonna get.

so pretty much ZERO cap room?

- Garnie

I believe the only 2 looking at raises are Gardiner and Reimer, and if Reimer gets too high of an award at arbitration, I can see the Leafs walking away

He is counting qualifying offers I think..

No, he was saying we have 5M before signing our RFAs, which is not true.

Mirtle had a pretty accurate looking salary roster:

You got it right. I think he'll be content to re-sign the regulars. Maybe look to move Franson or Reimer if the right deal comes along and wait until camp and see what shakes out.

we have a couple new righty's...I don't think it matters as long as we get something back..or a half decent pick...Franson's slow but has some strengths...not like he can't work on his skating.
- Garnie

Franson is 27, not 20. He is not gonna get faster. I had flashes

As much as we hate Franson, his award will be 3.5 plus which the Leafs cannot walk away from, no way in hell he gets 2.450, that is not the going rate for defenceman with his stats.

The Leafs cannot take the gamble of him getting to arbitration.

problem is we are paying Clarkson 2nd line money
I agree need a second liner ,but it would be a slap in the face to make less money and Clarkson playing on the second line with Clarkson being on the 3rd line

I'm hoping we are not the only one's who noticed his speed and he's been working with Underhill all summer.

Well, Ottawa looks like they're going to dump Wiercioch, might be a worthwhile trade there. And they are looking for help up front, so perhaps a forward/Franson for Wiercioch/prospect.

Yup, I think that's about it. I have a 14th fwd (most teams carry 23 players) and I think Franson might do a bit better then Mirtle does.

Either way 3 to 4 milly in wiggle room is a good guestimate.

You know it is more about Team Defense than our D playing better..

Just sayin. If the forward group could even spell defense, the d core would be vastly improved.

It is team d that wins..

Orr is probably the 14th forward; Bodie/Ashton 12/13th.
