All this depth usually befuddles everyone in the summer, but come the regular season, we'll be looking for more of it.

Don't sweat it: all those guys can equally play the wing or center, so Holland will get a good look in some capacity.

Key is that there's a lot of 1-year deals and Marlies grads looking to duke it out to eek out a career in the NHL, which is only going to benefit the team.

Last year we had less of that in the bottom six, and it showed.

It's interesting with all these short deals and new players, because these guys are literally getting a shot at making at least several million dollars more if they play well enough to get another NHL contract, or a first contract. That part of the team is like a reality show right now.

I'm glad the Leafs either were cap strapped or folded on a lot of these UFAs, Shanahan said it building a team on UFA team is tough.

I like a lot of the players that got signed UFA, but I'd rather the Leafs develop the next Stastny or whoever, and have them during their cheap years. Cutting bait as much as they did this time around might prove to have been a good move.
