It's about throwing money at the correct players, they did not do that....and have not done that for quite some time. - ThePresident
That player was not available this summer. Boyle wanted to be a Ranger, Stastny would have been too expensive. |

You don't know if they will be correct players until they play on the team. You can go down the list of teams that thought the player they got was right. Plus the player has to want to come here. |

Do you remember when the Kings were a bubble team, one of the youngest in the NHL? Were hovering just under the 8th place spot and then their GM made the necessary moves to get them over the hump? Ended up winning the Cup as a result....an 8th place team. Impact players like Richards and Carter were acquired to make the team better.....the Leafs have done none of that, and it kind of feels like they never will. We could be a serious contender if we acquired a 1st line center, which was available in both trade or UFA, and a top pairing Dman....which is available and trade and was available in UFA.....but again, we sign or acquire players like Kontiola, Komarov, and Polak, etc....players that really do not make a difference and we could have just filled out our bottom pairing or bottom 6 with young guys from our farm....or players much cheaper such as McClement, Downie, etc. - ThePresident
What 1st line center was available that you think we should have taken by either trade or UFA. You make it sound like we had many options available to us that would have made us a much better team but chose not too.
Maybe we did make offers to those people but they didn't want to come to Toronto.
What this team lacked last year was not a 1st line center. Our first line was one of the best in the NHL. We can score enough goals.
Our bottam 6 is what sucked, and this is what we have now greatly improved on.

That's great, the Leafs could sign Keith Aulie for 6 million dollars and say they plan on having him as a top pairing defenseman....it does not mean he is or will workout to be a top pairing Dman. We just paid Komarov based off of hope. - ThePresident
Hope? How is it hope? You don't think they know what he could do based on what they saw of him already? Based on his international experience recently? His khl time (komorov and kontiola both lead their teams in scoring this past year)

Outside of giving Komarov $1 million too much, I don't see any issues with how the money has been spent this offseason---and I like the Polak trade. |

because it comes across as angry and doomsday-ish
just being honest - Dozzer
Not angry, not doomsdayish....just common sense to me....I don't understand why everyone is so content with a team that just lost more than they gained....and we weren't good last season so I don't understand how that is an improvement....the only sense of optimism I can get out of it is Connor McDavid I guess

The only excellent signing of the summer was Erhoff. It's pretty obvious he wants to A) play for a contender, and B) use that contender to boost his value for his next contract. |

i dont understand why you think that they lost more than they gained
the leafs were 14th overall in offense last year.. 28th or something in overall defense.
the part that wasnt working was the D corps and the bottom six forwards
and thats what they are changing. |

I just don't see a team that lost more than it gained. I'm certainly not crying over the loss of Gunnarson and Raymond.
As for Bolland, he only really helped the first 15 games. He was useless when he came back from injury. |

Mind you, last season, Reimer had numbers similar to those of Bernier. |

The notable player the Leafs dropped was Bolland... who played all of what 20 games? I don't think the team is dramatically better but they certainly didn't lose much. I'd rather them improve the bottom-6 as they have and now leave room to make a bigger trade if they so choose. |
