I hope they give Cowen a little more time to see what a full training camp and healthy hip can do for his game. If he is still terrible half way through the season cut him loose. I dk what Ottawa's issue with Methot is, the guy is solid defensively unless they want our def to regress since nobody can replace him at this moment I do not see him being moved out.
Edit: It is not that us Sens fans overrate Lazar it is the media/scouts/other teams that are pumping the kids tires as well which is crazy for someone who has never played a pro game in their career yet. I bet he is worth it but I hate those wait and see auras around these young kids. If lazar comes in and does what Monahan did in Cal last season I would be happy. |

If Anderson/Lehner have strong years, I see a senators team that's not quite good enough for the playoffs, but not quite good enough for a lottery pick.
Perfect. - Feeling Glucky?
i can totally see that happening..
this season they will either compete for 8th or be last place...its gonna be a gonzo season for the sens i think...
i could see all the canadian teams missing this year too...awesome |

LAZAR IS GOD. Maybe we're overrating him (we're not, but you can think that way) but he is amazing. - TheCalSen
i think he's as untouchable as zib, as far as organization sees it. don't see him being traded... unless it involved someone like KANE. |

Well signing Legwand shores up our C depth now. I am surprised we got him for a half decent price considering the amount of ridiculous money being thrown around. - Sensfanlifer
I just don't understand the animosity towards Murray. Very few guys would be able to thread the needle the way he has on a very restrictive budget. One day very soon, I hope, Melnyk will be gone and new ownership will bring in a completely different set of financial guidelines. The foundation of this team is outstanding. Murray deserves a lot of positive strokes.
There are guys blowing piles of money on teams that never go anywhere. Murray is prudent and methodical. I know a bunch of you don't like his style but he is incredibly effective in difficult circumstances. |

I'm with the suspicion that a trade is coming. I wouldn't rule out Smith being moved. Maybe in a package with Weircioch or another d-man. |

if he has another half season like he played last year, he's absolutely worthless.
you either move him now while he still has "perceived value", or you go all in on him....it's everything or nothing.
i think the issue with methot is that he's been playing on our top line (even though he's realistically a #4 guy), and he's seen the ridiculous contracts handed out......he's gonna want to get PAID.......not sure he's worth it. |

They add a lot of depth on the 2nd and 3rd line.
Should be interesting to see who gets moved for defence.
Need a solid top 4 guy!!! Offensive guy like Streit... - jimmc7722
Its really strange, he struggled first 1/2 year, then he played much better second half, & in the playoffs.
I really thought we would hear rumors about him going back to NYI, but no, (because of his contract/age).
MacDonald is very underrated, very smart player. |

Legwand at 3 million a year is good - our center depth is now pretty decent.
Not a great team but decent depth everywhere - tuna99
Good Job with Legwand...

That is true on Methot but what is our alternatives. I bet we could resign him for cheap(home team discount to play with Karlsson) Guys of his skill calibre are signing for 4-5m a year

we had a team of less talented youngsters two years ago, and made it to the 2nd rd.....just saying.
i wouldn't be surprised if this team snuck in.....and i wouldn't be surprised if they finished near the bottom. - sensarmy_11
honestly as long as the young guys get good playing time and start taking steps forward in developing i think ill be pretty happy..i mean ill be mostly beligerent with all the loses im sure..but yeah when everything is all said and done i just want to see the team start to move forward and develop a new identity as a young fast aggressive team.
Either way they should be fun to watch |

Man Travis is negative these days. It is getting tiring: particularly when his source is Bruce Garrioch whose rumours as we know rarely have any basis to them. Any more objective Sens bloggers out there? |

Not sure he is underrated at 5 million a season... Isles fans hated him because the asked him to be a top 4 guy, which wasn't good for him. |

i could get on board with a trade for either, depending on the return.
have you heard anything about the ryan extension? you seemed pretty confident it would be done on 1 july - sensarmy_11
I'm still confident, I think it's a matter of taking care of other areas first. IE free agency and trading.
That said it's not finalized. |

Finally, some semi-good news! I like this signing, and clearly spending half the year with Alfie didn't deter him from coming here, so that's something. How cool would it be to get them both for the proper send off season Alfie deserves.
Now to trade all of the Spezza return minus Chiasson plus a D for Burns or Couture, we'd be looking good.

He takes a beating in Philly, (gets bashed for his contract), but watching the games, he's a very smart player, moves the puck well, blocks shots, very calm in the D zone.
Grabner is probably a goner?
or will he play with Grabs & Kuliman? |

Do you think Ottawa is close to done making deals or signing depth? or is there still some interesting plays to be made with our roster? |

i would argue it's just the opposite actually.....i find he's very overrated
doesn't put up a ton of points, gets dominated in possession, isn't anything special defensively, doesn't hit much.
the only thing he does is block lots of shots, but that's because there are so (frank)ing many taken against his teams when he's on the ice |
