DID WE JUST BECOME BEST FRIENDS

- TheMike12

No, I think we're going to make the playoffs.

I just like that most of you think spasto is a crazy person.

thoughts?

I am sure 6th Sens was intending to be constructive but the entire article is based on a false premise. He assumes Melnyk won't spend more money. Many others make that same mistake. It is not that he won't but he can't. You can't spend money that you don't have. And, you can't borrow money if your credit line is shaky.

Somebody said they did great in the shortened season, and they should be able to make the playoffs based on that.

I said it was because of unsustainable goaltending numbers.

That's all.

- Feeling Glucky?

Ok. I'm saying the only way they would have missed it is because of the injuries. Potaytoe potahto.

Sens fans are pretty level headed, even if you're corsi fanatics, the only real homers I know are spas and dopps... but dopps has a whole lot of other issues.

Losing Bernier down the stretch lead to our pdo going off a cliff. The way the Leafs play, they're going to have a high pdo year in and year out... scoring off rushes, and absorbing a lot of shots. Losing the ability to absorb shots was a very bad thing.

Dopps... You know I don't think he's ever surfaced here.

I think I may be the only other person who knows who that is... He makes prock look warm and reasonable in comparison

I think Prock has good points about the leafs... but goes a wee bit overboard when talking about the sens.

Probably because of the amount of time spent talking to spas and dopps in the nhl threads

i think this is a strong article written by a smart, critical sens' blogger. that being said, i see your point in regards wont vs. cant; however, that doesnt change the fact that we appear to be caught in a cycle of mediocracy unless we start to spend some $ soon.

To me, just yammering. Let's judge the finished product of the offseason first shall we.

Too much "cart before the horse" mentality these days.

its a hard time to be a sens fan. i think we are ok, mostly bc of the way murray has built this team--- set us up for the future. BUT that doesnt mean the future couldnt be now, or very soon... all this penny pinching can't be good for the team.

that being said, hopefully murray will be able to pull off a decent trade here that will help our team and take the sting out of how things have been going.

EDIT: that being said, he trades weirchioch for someone named stewert or anything remotely similar im going to throw up in my mouth. id be fine if he were part of a bigger packaged deal that sees a good piece come back, but otherwise i think it will be a dark day in sens land.

i think procks brain explodes in the canucks threads like it does in sens threads as well...but i have seen him post in the leafs thread and he seems to at least not sound like the most hate filled person in the history of the world..so that's good i guess.

he doesnt spend as much time in the sens threads as he used to because hes hit that point where no one can take him seriously or really care about what he thinks which is good.

You do realize the team has gate revenues and other forms of income that Melnyk does not directly have access to as they are already committed to the teams operating budget, right? The team will have lots more cash rolling in in the next 2-3 years with the TV revenues and league $ sharing too. Despite the discussion here, this team is not broke but in very good financial health provided they can get out of their debt obligations. It's very similar to the state of federal finances in Canada, actually.

I agree with you that it is annoying that the guy won't put up $ for any new acquisitions, but we have the capacity and pricing structure to run a team with a budget of 52-58 mil depending on ticket sale variability. Anything above that Melnyk would traditionally cover. This is why people are so annoyed with him, he actually hasn't put any of his own money into the team in almost 3 years and is using them as a leverage asset to handle outstanding personal debt, all while holding on to his own millions. That is why we be mad with him, it's that he WON"t spend money on the team when he could be.

Admittedly, intentionally. This place would be so boring if everyone was all politically correct, you know. If I came on here all calm and rational, I would get no fun out of posting here. It’s more fun posting things very emphatically.

Admit it, Sens fans, you love to hate me and you wouldn’t have as much fun if I wasn’t here.

I enjoy having Spats around. Trolling in his passive aggressive way. When you know what he’s doing, it’s actually amusing to see. And Dopps. Likes to pretend he’s all smart, talking about global warming and such, but he truly is as stubborn and stupid as a rock. It’s all very fun to me.

This is why I hate topshelf15. Can’t get him going. Ever. He’s like Mary f*&king Poppins with a rainbow up his a$$.

But the question is....can bernier maintain his level of play while getting peppered with shots game in and game out
Or what happens when your ''scoring off the rush" dries up

MacLean needs to get his $hit together this season, a lot of his decision making hurt the team last year.

Patrick Wierciotch should be in the top four this upcoming season. It's honestly a no brainer.

We go back to last summer when it became very clear that Melnyk was being limited in his salary budgets. It happens to great businesses everyday. It happened to Steve Jobs and Apple on several occasions. It means that the numbers and your creditors dictate how and where you spend your money. Melnyk is not out to screw Ottawa or their fans. He is struggling to get his financial house in order, including selling all his horses and stables that are, supposedly, his first sporting love. When he gets the books cleaned up the Senators will be recapitalized, probably in a sale. And all the financial problems will be transitioned into a better financial model.

This will happen because Melnyk's creditors need it to happen. The beauty of this kind of financial reorganization is that it is really important to all the creditors that the Senators succeed, make the playoffs and earn more revenue.

First, anything can happen. I personally think a lot of the problem had to do with a massive imbalance in offensive Dmen, and defensive ones. Phaneuf, Gardiner, Rielly, Franson, all primarily offensive guys. Rielly, for a good portion of the year, was just as bad as Karlsson defensively. He was just a rookie though, and improved. Partly why I think it was stupid to deal Gunnarson, as one of the more responsible guys. However, I’m assuming they deal Franson, who was pretty much an abortion defensively last year, even worse than Karlsson. So yeah, like worst in the league bad. But, as much as I’m not a fan of the Robidas signing, he will improve the D defensively. Polak for Gunnarson, close to a wash. If Franson gets dealt, and Granberg is brought up to play third pairing, the team will in fact be better defensively, IMO. Just not as imbalanced. And hopefully Gardiner and Rielly being a year older helps. Rielly was actually massively improved in his own end from beginning of year to end. Not that I like +/-, but he was something like -15 just a few weeks into the season, with limited minutes. It was a shooting gallery while he was on the ice for the first half of the season. That stabilized mid-season. Hopefully that continues.

So, who knows. That was the biggest problem with the Leafs. They’ve taken steps to address it. I’m not a fan of the steps they took, but hey, you can’t always get what you want.

Offensively, there is no shortage of snipers and goal scoring.
