Ek has the flyers in on Peter mueller. He certainly would be a better low risk signing than Ott. Dollars would be low I would like to see it

Happy Independence day to all my fellow Flyers fans in the States... have fun, but not as much fun as Giroux did.. lol I like to have a blast on Canada day, but I try to avoid cops and certainly don't pinch their asses.

The price to take Vinny is way too high if that's correct.. I'd be fine to keep him.

- Hextall271

Ive already grabbed like 5 cop asses today. I guess it's not even a problem in the states

Much rather sign him than Ott.

Yay, cap flexibility in 2017, when Giroux will be 29! Then and only then we'll thinking getting him some real top line help.

Yeah, dumping Vinny for Setoguchi or even MDZ is not going to put this team in league with the best teams out there. They're several significant pieces away, and they don't have the present flexibility to go after them.

They really don't have any choice but to wait for some of Homer's past extravagances to wash out of the roster, and "waste" some of our young core's peak production years in the meantime. Sanity has to return to the budget or we'll be caught in this cycle of sign/dump/sign forever.

- Tomahawk

Exactly, I like dumping Vinny just to dump him. I was not advocating dumping him and then running out and signing a guy like Cammalleri

He seems to bounce around teams a lot. I guess he didnt even play in the NHL last year? Says he played in the NLA. Seems like a dedirable bottom 6 guy, though.

This would be easier to take if I thought next years cap situation was going to be a lot better. All of their players are signed for multiple years and Hexy hasn't moved any of them except Hartnell. He saved 2 years on that deal.

If Hexy just decided to use this season as a way to clear salary and accrue assets, I would have been fine. He's accrued some assets, but our salary cap situation isn't going to look much different next year. We just need to hope these immoveable guys are more moveable next offseason

- PhillySportsGuy

It's only 3 days in free agency. A lot can happen between now and the trade deadline. I like that Hexy is standing his ground on not eating too much.

The man finished third in league scoring. Guy doesnt need more help. Give him Schenn, and if Schenn develpps into a top liner, then cool, he'll have more top line help.

Every one of those lines has major questions.
Schenn isn't a first line player, at least no yet. Umberger and VL are coming off injury plagued seasons. They may have nothing left.
Raffl has shown promise, but his ability to finish is a concern.
That 4th line has literally zero NHL experience.

That's probably the reality they face. Taking two steps forward might require a step back

the key for him is health... he was healthy playing the last couple seasons after a ton of early career setbacks which is a good sign imo. the talent is there.

Yep. I have faith Hextall can turn it around. There is no wave of a magic wand for a quick fix. I agree with you and the majority that it's a fringe playoff team as is.

Then we have our 6 other 20 goal scorers pick up some slack. As it sits, we strongly compete for best forward depth in the league.

I can handle competitive/fringe playoff team a lot better if there's a plan. Hextall seems to have one. As long as he sticks to it, I have faith.

Agreed. Would have been interesting to see what Hextall would have done with some cap flexibility.

Peter Mueller's like Vinny (and to a lesser extent, Akeson)... unless he's on a prime scoring line, you're going to have to hide him somewhere deep in your lineup because he doesn't move so great, doesn't deign to play much defense, and isn't exactly the heartiest player.

Bring him in as G's LW? Sure, I could see that paying off handsomely. But if there's even a doubt about how much patience Chief would have with his warts/hiccups, I wouldn't take the chance.
