Exactly. Just easier to reduce it all to "Corsi" and call them flawed.

I'm going to look at the teams that openly utilize analytics and see how they're doing. Like Chicago and Los Angeles.

It's not about finding a magic bullet, it's about having a way to quantify what's going on during games. It's not foolproof, but it is a pretty useful tool.

You have this wrong again. I uses things like zone starts all the time. As an example in forming my opinion that Couturier needs to be used in better offensive situations to develop his offensive game.

Those teams state that they use analytics. Which is a general term. Are you assuming they go to extraskater and look at the stats there? Analytics aren't really new. Roger Neilson used them in conjunction with video back in the 70's.. Teams have their own internal analytics.

Quantifying what's going on in games is fine. Corsi as a team stat is fine. As a stat to rate individual players. Lots of flaws.

From what I hear Shultz is better than Gus. He is an adequate 3rd pairing guy and an excellent 7th guy. Sure the Umburger deal we lose grit but we get better skating and some actual defensive play back. I was sick and tired of seeing hartnell standing around in the D zone while guys skated by him, he wasn't the only one but still. The other 3 are call up guys or 4th line guys depending on our Day one Roster.

He's a solid veteran 6/7 guy. He spent 10 years or so in Minnesota and was a good, solid contributor there. He's declined a bit, but he's still capable of filling a depth role. Definitely more mobile than Gill, and probably stronger on the puck & more reliable in his own end than Gustafsson at this point in Gus' development.

Whole point of my argument was a comparison of Hartnell to Umberger and which player was a better possession player.

Good to hear. Many made him sound like he's a bad player.

Aware of all that. What is quality of competition and teammates based on. What's the base start.

Total weighted icetime. It's not based on Corsi at all.
