Giroux was hurt the first 15 games of this year. Thats the team we are without Giroux.
- FlyersSteve118

No, that's the team we are with a hurt Giroux. Not at all the same thing. You have to take him out of the equation entirely, and doll out his responsibilities to others to truly know how good we are without him.

I'm not disagreeing with you btw, I'm just saying we don't really know. We have a deep forward group and if we get better at 5v5, I don't see how the Flyers wouldn't be able to at least remain competitive until he returned (obviously depends on the length of his injury).

under option 2 looks like the Flyers could send Akeson down, put Rosehill on waivers, Pronger on LTIR. That would mean they Flyers have 3,130,000 to sign players. Is that correct?

Do you think the Flyers should trade assets to get another elite forward or are you just venting about the team lacking another #1 scorer?
- PhillySportsGuy

He was just saying how the Flyers don't have a chance in hell to make the playoffs if Giroux got hurt.

Your courageous to argue with me but not argue with me? I'm not understanding, you just said the post didn't deserve a detailed response....

Because I've given you several already to which your replies indicated you either don't understand, or you just didn't read them.

I don't like the timing of the Hartnell deal. Would I trade assets to get another elite forward? Like anyone else, I think it depends on what we're going after. So I suppose you've nailed it. I'm just venting that we're lacking another number 1 scorer (Not that I'm calling Hartnell a number 1 scorer).

They get a full off season and pre season to really learn Berube's system and commit to it. Berube's system might be a little more complex now that he will have time to teach it to the players with greater detail.

Not saying that is going to happen, just that is one possibility.

At least.. I hope.

- FlyersSteve118

His system is pretty standard. Maybe he makes some tweaks now that he has an offseason. I just look at this roster and see a team that will look a lot like last years.

How can they fix 5v5 if they moved a strong possession player for a weak one? What have they done to get better in that area?
- PhillySportsGuy

By spreading the strong possession players around the line up in an effort to help the weaker possession guys out.

If I have three weak possession guys and put them all together, the result will likely be that those three guys would make each other worse & would be a horrible line in terms of matchups.

However, if we take a weak possession guy and play him with an exceptional possession player or two, the chances are that the weak guy would be helped. Granted, the weak player may well drag the stronger down, but that's where we'd have to look at usage, and roles on the lines.

Most fans in Columbus were happy to see Umberger gone and viewed him as a bit of an anchor.
- PhillySportsGuy

Which means what?

Ask a handful of Flyers fans the same about Hartnell, I'd bet a paycheck at least 50% (if not more) would say the same thing.

I haven't really looked at Columbus' numbers, but were they really a team with strong possession numbers as a whole? I never got that vibe from them, watching them play.

I think a hurt Giroux still playing is better than no Giroux at all. Without him I feel we would be much worse that the Flyers team at the beginning of this season. Obviously, I have no evidence for this, but the idea scares the hell out of me.

You took exception to me, which has resulted to you spitting out pathetic insults. Nothing more, nothing less. Now you have other people on this board supporting my case. What else do you want?

I would think that they are counting on internal improvement from a couple of players and some improved consistency with systems play.
- AllInForFlyers

I guess we'll see. It's up to Schenn and Couts imo. If they become the players we hoped they'd become, it could take them a long way.

There is no such thing as waivers or sending players down during the off season.

Giroux was hurt a few games before the 2012 Winter Classic for example thanks to a Simmonds knee to the back of his head. We can start there and remind ourselves how scary those 2 weeks were.

Thats fairly obvious. They rely on him for a lot. Every team would get worse if they lost their best player. Flyers are already a fringe playoff team.

Only thing I've done is called your statements idiotic, which they are. I've been called much worse on these boards.

I don't want anything and I don't care if an army supports your "case". It still doesn't make a lick of sense.

I agree completely. The solution to our problems is big time line shuffling. Can't keep Giroux and Voracek together. Our two best offensive players need to be seperated 5v5.

Read-Giroux-Simmonds
Schenn-Lecavalier-Voracek
Umberger-Couturier-Raffl

or

Read-Giroux-Simmonds
Umberger-Schenn-Voracek
Raffl-Couturier-Laughton/Akeson/TBD player

That's how you fix this team 5v5, at least up front.

- mochoson

Nah

Hartnell 2.0-G-Voracek
Raffl-Vinny-simmonds
Schenn-Coots-read

If you are paying Umberger 4.6 mill u might as well try and get the most bang for your buck. Time to see how
aving a better defensive player and skater will affect the top line

I think they're banking on Schenn and/or Couts developing into that 1-2 punch with Giroux. Hopefully, next year is that year.

Do we have that many strong possession players? We traded a strong possession player for a weak one

You would think his production might be higher by playing with the 3rd best point producing center in the league.

Problem is, you want Schenn, Couturier, Read, Simmonds and Voracek playing more then Umburger.
